Coach Jacklins crew of footballers try hard, but appear to lack confidence in themselves. As sophomores, the class of 1979 won only one game, and one in their junior year. The group looked great in defeating Ben Lomond and Olympus this year, hut then fell in fast action to Layton, Weber, Clearfield and Alta. Thats only four wins inthree years. Ernie Jacklin concedes that he doesn't have the horses of past years, but is frustrated in losing to teams like Weber, Clearfield and Alta, who are also experiencing lean years. In the Alta game Roy bested the Hawks in total yards but lost by two touchdowns. We havent stopped the big plays this year, said Coach Jacklin, and on the other hand, we havent made big plays. . A couple of Royal linemen quit ihe earn early in the season, men who saw a lot of action in Roys early games. The former Notre Dame star averaged 25.8 points per game with 35 points as his high. Pete Maravich was second in scoring with 18.5 per game and 27 points as his highest game. John Webb, Director of KZAN Station, has announced that Russ Sneddon and Stan Perry will join together to head up the KZAN sports team. Sneddon, President of Sneddon Enterprises, has a nationally impressive sports record and background, and will serve as sports director and coordinator of sporting events for the station. A former A.A.U. middleweight . boxer, Sneddon was tournament Director for the 5th World Judo Championship, in which he brought the state of Utah its first international sporting event. He was National Administrator for the United States Junior Olympics and the Founder of the Junior Olympic Canadian Radio . . many individuals who had devoted their time and effort in supporting the move of an NBA team to the state of Utah. Matheson urged all citizens to join the teams support 75-7- 6. The 14th Annual Weber State Collegiate Invitational Golf Tournament will beheld Thursday and Friday at the Ogden Golf and Country Club. Schools like and smaller than a lot of die Skyline, Orem; Brighton, Cottonwood, Kearns and Orem arent likely to be affected by lean years,, because they have student populations exceeding 2,000 bodies, comparedto less than 1400for Rqy. He served for two years in the Taiwan Tiapei Mission.1 At Roy High Dan was a two-yeletterman in basketball and was an all-arsecond team pick his -senior year. The other half of the team, Stan Perry brings the area an exciting n sports personality who is as a professional baseball scout and former minor league manager. A graduate of Stanford University, Perry played in the New York Yankee system for six years and most recently was General Manager of the Ogden well-know- Athletics. Together they should combine to provide coverage of local and national sporting events, and will add a new dimension to sports information, analyzation and broadcasting.
