The mouse, created by Charlotte and worn by her husband Dennis, under the approval of the As management, was a novelty hit with the younger fans, tolerated by the umpires, and disgusted more conservative ticket buyers. The franchise managers were assailed by noted, letters and phone calls as well as visits from disgruntled supporters who felt the idea was childish, immature and very bush league. Management surrendered and tied the can to the tail of the mouse. With the mouse gone, the As called upon the Weber College mascot to fill in for a promotional stunt sponsored chicken emby a local take-hom-e porium. The idea to present a half eaten fried seagull to the Salt Lake City Gulls manager during the game. Unlike the chicken, it was in poor taste. No one seemed to find it very funny. He is on the roster as a catcher, but his arm. has gone and so has his hustle. Tim hit a broken back ground ball to the third baseman, and instead of moving toward first base, chose to stand and watch as the ball was hobbled before the player could find the handle and throw him out. And so it goes. The talent is, or should be, there, but is overshadowed by lack of hustle, missed signs, bumbled plays and generally poor attitude shown by so many of the players. And the fans groan. They paid to see major league ball, and are instead treated to the Ogden version of the Bad News Bears. Ogden dropped four of the five games and continued in their quest of skid row. Lately the Ogden teams play has been less than inspiring. Despite earlier problems which should have been worked out by now, and ample reinforcements brought in to shore up weak spots, they are still unable to find the combination for winning ball. Many problems were glaringly exposed during the Gull series. Take for instance Tim Hosley, the disgruntled designated hitter. Tim is collecting $250,000 a year from Oakland, and he needs about 45 major league games to qualify for his pen Greg After the Pitch Hit and Run Contest was finalized a special Home Run was conducted. Each Derby youngster was given eight tries to hit as many home runs as possible. In order to recieve credit for a home run, the ball had to travel a certain distance marked on the field. Winners also recieved ribbons. 393-431- SS 2 Anyday - Any Hour 375 5th Street Ladies Lingerie and Apparel PHONE 393-221- 1 All Swimwear & Terrys m SALE PROFESSIONAL FITTINGS. 375 5th Street, Ogden - lei. 393-221- 1 |
