There I were windows everywhere, letting in both the light and the view. It was what I knew for “home”. When I moved to Castle Valley and began designing my home, many people strongly recommended protection from the summer’s heat and the winter’s cold. They suggested using as few windows as possible to contend with these elements. Last month the POA The Grand County Council and ATL (Association for the Tree of Life) will sponsor a Public Information Meeting regarding the Atlas Tailings Pile. The meeting will be held at Star Hall on Thursday, November 16, 1995 at 7:30 pm and will provide an update on the status of activities associated with the reclamation (isolation of the tailings from water and air) of the pile. In 1990, a Citizens Task Force was appointed by the Grand County Commission and continued by the Grand County Council. Its charge was to follow developments associated with the reclamation of the pile. Members of the Task Force and County Council members will be present to provide background information and answer questions. The Task Force has met on numerous occasions to organize the Public Information Meeting. One of the primary items which will be addressed is the 2594813 forthcoming release of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which is expected in January, 1996. The document will address the impacts associated with Atlas and the Nuclear Regulatory Commissions preferred option of capping the pile in place, as well as other viable alternatives. It is imperative that the Moab community participate in the review of this document, prepare comments to reflect its views and make its position known so that the needs of grand County citizens and the affected communities downstream of the pile are met. Members of the community are urged to attend this meeting so that they may be brought up to date on where we are, what has been accomplished to date and where we are going. There will be presentations and an open question and answer period. It is crucial that lawmakers and the political structures know what we, as a community, want. The Environmental Impact Statement process provides a mechanism to ensure that our community is heard. CV FIRE BAN LIFTED Following this meeting, the Task Force will mobilize community members who have volunteered to assist in the review of the Environmean Impact Board elected to change the meeting time back to 7pm. Date and place remain the same (1st Wed of the month and at the CV Firestation). MISSING YOUR BEST FRIEND? Foundzamediumsize, black male dog. Long, curly black hair, brown eyes, very sweet. Work groups will be formed so that when the EIS becomes available review can begin immediately. The comment period is usually 30 days. Even if you are not technically trained, your input is both needed and valued. Oni Butterfly |
