Show CASTLE VALLEY TIMES PLANTING TIMES Castle Valley, Utah -- Volume 4, Number 3 -- March 15, 1995 TOWN MEETING PLANNED TO DISCUSS DISINCORPORATION ISSUES The Town Council is organizing a town meeting Saturday, April 8 for Castle Valley residents who would like to discuss issues related to the disincorporalion election occurring April 18, 1995. (If anyone has been blissfully unaware of recent events, there will be a special election April 18 to determine whether or not the Town of Castle Valley should be dissolved. Castle Valley would then be governed by the Grand County and Grand County ordinances.) Hopefully, a professional facilitator from UP&L will come and provide neutral, unbiased guidance for the meeting. UP&L has provided facilitators for other controversial meetings in the Moab area. With valid pros and eons on both sides of the issue, it seems like a community discussion could be productive. Again, the tentative meeting date is set for April 8 at 9am at the LDS church...but please check for notices at the front gate closer to the date, to make sure there haven’t been last minute changes. Board position available due to Maria Lowe’s resignation. POA members who are interested in filling her position please contact the POA Board in writing (POA, CVSR Box 2612, Moab, UT 84532). The more helping, the more fun it will be. Who wants to have the egg dying party this year? Cris Coffey Yes, it’s that time again when, despite all of the other demands, we find ourselves preparing the soil, checking our watering systems, and getting ready to plant. For those of us crazy and/or ambitious enough to have ordered trees and shrubs from Utah State Lands and Forestry, the plants will be arriving in Moab on Thursday, March 30th. Below is information about planting these seedlings excerpted from the State’s guide: Planting For Survival. Storing bare root seedlings: “If you are able to plant seedlings within 10 days, leave them in the nursery package where their roots are protected in wet moss or a moist jell-like polymer. Do not open the package until you are ready to plant. If you cannot plant your seedlings immediately, pour four ounces of water into each package every four to five days. Several minutes after each watering, tip the package to drain excess water. Store seedlings in a cool, shaded place such as an unheated garage, basement, or cellar. ” Hole size and depth: Holes should be 12—15” deep and 10” wide with a clear space around them of 28’. Plants should be placed so that their roots fall in a natural position. The depth is determined by the “root collar, an area on the stern marked by the original nursery soil.” This can be seen by a change in color or a swelling of the stern. Plant the root collar level with or 1/2” below the soil surface. When transferring the plant to the hole, be sure to cover the roots More Planting, page 3 |
