Show CASTLE VALLEY TIMES PARcr-IEDTIMES Castle Valley, Utah - Volume 5, Number 6 - FIRE RESTRICTIONS ORDERED FOR GRAND COUNTY Fire restrictions have been imposed in Grand, San Juan. Garfield, Kane and Washington coimties due to extreme fire danger in those counties. The order includes all state. private, national forest, BLM and National Park Service lands within the restricted area and remains in effect until rescinded. The fire restriction order prohibits: 1) Open fires of any kind. Campfires in facilities provided for them in designated campground and picnic areas are allowed. 2) Smoking, except in vehicles. boats, developed recreation sites, residences or JUNE 15, 1996 - GOOD NEWS SOLSTICE PARTY! (Land within municipal limits is not regulated by this order—all other land around Castle Valley is effected.) POA SPECIAL VOTE At the June 1st Special Meeting. the POA membership voted over- whelmingly to transfer $20,000 to the Town for road work this coming year. Five Castle Valley seventh and eighth graders were welcomed into the National Junior Honor Society this year. High academic and citizenship standing is required to be chosen for this honor. Congratulations to seventh grader Kristin Shellberg, and eighth graders Tara Fitzgerald, Mara Ginnane, Sarah Hedden, and Elizabeth Whitney. Mara and Tara were also honored as top scorers of Utah eighth graders taking college entrance exams. Mara took the SAT’s; Tara took the ACT’s. Prac- ticing taking these exams will help both girls when they are ready for _ college. Congratulations also to Olivia Kulander who earned straight “A's" in in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials. DROUGHT CONTINUES her eighth grade course of home study. CASTLE VALLEY SCHOLARSHIP GOES TO EMILY TUFT The $1500 Castle Valley Scholarship was awarded to Emily Tuft this year. The scholarship is donated annonymously and is given to graduating high school seniors from Castle Valley. This course required high degrees of self motivation and self—discipline. And last but not least, congratula- tions to Lois and Ross on their marriage ...well...almost (6/22)! We look forward to having Ross join us in Castle Valley. DONATIONS APPRECIATED: CASTLE VALLEY EXPECTED TO IMPOSE FIRE RESTRICTIONS The Town Council is expected to impose fire restrictions again this summer. For the past several years the Town has set the following fire restrictions: 1) Banning open fires for any purpose. 2) Prohibiting any type of fireworks 3) “Welding, metal grinding, or other processes known to produce sparks and other fire hazards must be conducted indoors or with means to extinguish a fire located at the site of the activity 4) Smoking materials must be disposed of safely. 5) Individuals are liable for the costs of extinguishing any fire that they may Thanks this month to Loretta Paetsch and George and Maria Rybka for your donations.
