One senator asked, "How .an I go home with nothing when this legislature appropriated the largest increase in state funds tor the public schools in history?" Under the present formula, 19 districts will receive no more state funds under the $18.65 million appropriation increase than they mw do. A number of other districts will benefit only marginally. Most of these districts are high valuation districts and for this reason will receive no additional state funds. There are some small districts that will be hurt. Blair Henderson attended an executive committee meeting of the IEA and delegate assembly last week. Along with him were Reed Riplinger and Mark Godfrey, who teach at West Side, and Reed Brenchley, Lyle Shipley, Donna Noyes and Ruby Boothe, who teach in Preston. What this legislature does will determine whether property taxpayers will have to wait until 1977 or 1982 before the point of equity will be reached. The equity is that all property will be assessed at 20 percent of true or "market" value. And hopefully by whatever date is decided upon, the State Tax Commission will have used its power to make sure that every county is on even keel in the assessment procedure. And so, although the legislative leaders are talking about a Saturday adjournment, don't be surprised if the 40th session does not slop over into next week. 2 WAYS TO ORESS UP YOUR HOME for EASTER Griffiths and Burdette GrifMr. Larsen fiths Sunday. was a school chum of GLENN BRITTON, Ogdcn DICK WIDDISON, Ogdcn -JIM CLYDE, Ogdcn BEN TANAKA, Trcmonton 0GDEN Office Office Office 392-75-57 302-75-57 392-75- 57 Office SALES 392-75- Residence 3934266 2 Residence Residence Residence 773-065- 399-16- 257-71- 98 COMPANY LIVESTOCK EXCHANGE BLDG., OflDEN PHONE OGDKN UNION STOCKYARDS, OGDEN, UTAH 392-75- |
