Being released as bishop he was sustained as clerk for Smithfield Stake and served for five years. He had previously been a stake High Councilman in the Henson Stake, and later served twice in the High Council in Smithfield Stake. During the building program of the Smithfield Stake and 4th Ward meeting house, he served as finance clerk to both groups. In August 1944 he was selected as Smithfield Stake President where he served for five years. Following this assignment he served as Gospel Doctrine instuctor in his ward 9 years. In September 1950 he was ordained' patriarch for the Smithfield Stake, and for nearly twenty four years has served in that THIS service has not detracted irom his interests in his family and they in turn have complied with his ambitions. 01 the live children, two son and three daughters, all have graduated with college degrees.
