Last week several officers from Orem High placed a sign in the main hall that wished our basketball team luck at the state tournament. A similar sign was presented to Provo High. Orem should be commended for this fine display of semi-Christi- an sportsmanship. There should be only one regret for BY Highland that is that we didnt extend a similar gesture to AF, Springville, and Provo. Even though we were in the tournament, there might have been something we could have said. Maybe next year we will be in the position or mood to take the first big step. Both Region 4 and BY High .were well represented in the Class A and teams announced Saturday by the Deseret News. The 1966 team includes two players from Region 4: Jim Rees from Provo and Jim Fox of American Fork. Also on the team are Rick Miller of West High, and John Landures and Doug Howard, both from Highland. Members of the second team of from Region 4 are Craig Boorman and Chris Bean from Provo and AF respectively. Barry Olson was named to the Deseret News Little team along with Bob Eckles of American Fork. Highland High put BY in the consolation bracket on Mar. 7 by in the Neil-so- n defating them, Fieldhouse in Salt Lake. Larry Denham put the Wildcats out in front 2 early in the first quarter, but that was the last lead BY saw as John Landures and Doug Howard began rolling up the score with outside 1 shots, giving the Rams a first period lead. Highland gained three more on BY during the second stanza, with a 8 leading at half-tim- e bulge. The Wildcats found the mark, however, in the third quarter putting in 11 straight points and narrowing the margin to nine points Denham acat one time, counted for nine BY counters that quarter and was going wild on the boards. Larry hauled down 18 rebounds for the game and led the Wildcats to a victory in that department. The Wildcats again started scoring in the final quarter, with Denham working around his two defenders for layins; but Highland was also hot and kept their lead for a Wildcat defeat of The Rams' famed defensive press didn't seem to bother BY at all as several fast break opportunities developed; had they been able to score on all of these, the game would have been much closer. Larry Denham led all scorers in the game with 28 points, '20 from the field. Denham was about the only player hitting well, and he got into foul trouble early in the game. Nevertheless, he managed to make 25 points to be one of the leading scorers in the tournament at that time. Box Elder went on to lose to Bear River in the consolation finals.
