Wrestling traced to early Egypt Byloel Zabriskie Wrestling is one of the oldest sports, known as early as 3,000 BC. in Egypt and Babylonia. Greek legends tell of Ajax and llysses being wrestlers. Wrestling continued through the Christian Fra. the Middle Ages, and has come up to the modern day. Professional wrestling began in the 1880's, and the first college meet was held in 1900 between Pennsvlvania and Yale. THERE ARE TWO types of n and wrestling: the latter is used by BY High. Both are used in the Olympic games. Greco-Roma- Cateh-As-Catch-C- wrestling emphasizes prone holds. All holds, including tripping and tackling, are permitted except kicking and choking holds. A fair is scored when one contestant pins both of his opponent's shoulders to the ground at the same time. Amateur wrestling, which takes place in high schools and colleges, is divided into three periods. The first period starts with the wrestlers standing. The second and third start with the wrestlers in the referee s position, a kneeling position with one wrestler under the other. This puts the top man on offense and the bottom man on defense.
