Show PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. 342 Oat if the 444 Sltclnnt Vote Kcc-eary Kcc-eary to Elect. An exchange says that the 8th day of November is not very far off. On that day forty-four states will cast 444 electoral votes, and in order to be elected the successful success-ful candidate must secure 223 of them. President Harrison has only to carry every state he did four years ago to be re-elected; he can spare New York fro m that list and with Indiana still be victorious, but if he loses New York and Indiana ho will be defeated. The Republican.! are therefore wisely concentrating their strength and resources in a supreme effort to ftarry New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Indiana. If Cleveland carries the south sjlidly and New York, Connecticut, New Jersey and Indiana, -he will have three electoral votes to spare, and conceding him five of Michigan's electors he would have 231. |
