Show Oil of nirch Costn Money. ' Recently there was sen I from Norwich to New York five two gallon tin cans filled with oil of black birch, which was manufactured in Uozrah by John Miner. It is worth 880 n gallon, and the livecaiis contained 1 03 pounds of oil, valued at 800, or a littleover S5 a pound. Black birch trees do not yield oil as the maple trees run sap. There is work in getting the tender twigs, and labor in the process of extracting tho oil. One ton of twigs yields just three pounds of oil. und it took nearly lif ty-throo ions of twigs to yield the ten gallons. This oil is used in giving the wintergreen flavor to confections of all kiuds. New London Lon-don Telegraph. |
