Show THE COMET. Our Loch I Aalroiiomcr "A1 Slzos up tlie Heavenly "Tailed Visitor." Tins tailed visitor was first discovered dis-covered by Alfred B. Rordame of Salt Lake City, and announced to the world by dispatches of the Associated As-sociated Press July 9 inst. It was stated to be in the constellation Ly nx. The writer of this article noticed it accidentally at 10:30 p. in. July 12th; it was then in the constella tion Leo Minor, bclow the Dipper, in the north western sky. On the evening even-ing of the 13, I made an observation to determine its position and found it to be right ascension 10 hours 21 minutes, north declination '19 deg. lb minutes. Its course is westward, west-ward, inclined south, and it is moving mov-ing very fast. The tail is straig) t nnd points upward. The head is of a bluish color n ml about the brightness of a star of the fourth magnitude. When once seen it is easily followed on successive evenings, even-ings, otherwise it will escape the notice of most people. The tail is dim and hardly visible to the naked eye, but easily discerned with an ordinary field glass. It appears to best advantage between 10 and 11 o'clock, and sets abiut I midnight. It is now in the con-j con-j stellation Leo, and last night on a line with the ''pointers," and as far to the left of them as they are left of the polar star. A. Brigham City, July 18, 1803. |
