Bette Davis turned down a request to be photogiaphed looking at Blake imitating Bette Davis. Clifton Webb answeied a request for a record of his voice saying g to sue. Blake cant understand it. Its the first trouble he's had in seven years of lampoons, unless you count an open handed right to the cheek delivered by Katharine Hepburn in Boston in 1941. How not a day goes by without a letter fiom some lawyer or agent: Dear Mr. iBIake. If you with stony silence. Blake now has two choices. He can strip his act as base of material as Gypsy Rose I.ee is of clothes. Or he can take it he hopes, to Australia, where there arent so many lawyers. dilector finally came out and W'hat everybody knows. Bacon said he didnt mean that there ane no fine screen actois, or that one cant act well on the screen. But wardrobe departments, directors, cameramen and coaches can take almost any candidate and make him look good in anything but a top dramatic part. Ive seen people selected for their appearance alone walk into a scene with the case of a veteran and carry it off beautifully, he said. ' Feeders Eye Pound Not Marked Gains Wise cattle and lamb feeders this fall and winter will depend more on efficiency of gains and lower feed costs to make a profit in their feeding operations than upon margins or spread between the cost of feeder cattle and anticipated sales value of finished cattle several months later, says Moiris H. Taylor, Utah State Agricultural college extension cattle marketPh. 56 ing specialist, quoting the American Meat institute. This is due to competition for feeder stock as a result of a record production of feeds and smaller numbers of cattle and lambs available for feeding, Taylor explained. There were 12 percent fewer cattle on feed August 1, 1948 than a year ago, but producers have indicated they will feed more cattle this winter than in the winter of 1947-48- , according to US DA repoits. The increase in number of cattle fed will come through holding more grass cattle for further feeding. In contrast, the number of lambs to be fed this year may not be greater than a because year ago, primarily there was 1.3 million fewer lambs this year than last in the 13 Western states that ordinarily provide the bulk of the feeder lambs. With consumer demand for meat at an high, the outlook for livestock prices in months immediately ahead depends largely on government action, Taylor said. Some tightening of credit may be expected but drastic deflation seems unlikely. Expenditures of government, corporations and individuals will continue to provide a high level of employment and consumer purchasing pow'er. Although there are uncertainties ahead which livestock feeders should be prepared io meet, the feeders have a favorable the feeding year in prospect, extension specialist said.
