Athletic Awards Five Box Elder athletes received gold medals in sports, and a number won B pins. A gold medal for football in 1947 and 1948, for basketball in in 1948 1948 and for baseball and 1949 went to Charles Whitaker. Lynn Spindler and Brad Hansen received gold medals for two years of football and two years of track each. Lyle Young received his medal for football in 1948 and basketball in 1948 and 1949. Warren Fer- Del-ph- a n PRESENTED AWARD CERTIFICATES Honor Assembly Held Tuesday At High School For The Seventh, Eighth And Ninth Grades The junior divisions award assembly was held at Box prize-winnin- Elder high school Tuesday morning, with certificates for outstanding performance and service in scholarship, attendance, student activities and athletics presented to a number of outstanding members of the seventh, eighth and ninth grades. The meeting was called to or- gan, Robert Olsen, Berdine Pe- der by Vo6co Call, chairman of the awards committee. Boy Scouts Herbert Adamson and Robert Munns, in uniform, advanced the colors, and the congregation sang America. Invocation was by A. T. Tuttle. An ensemble of junior division girls, Carla Poulson, Sandra Beckert, Dixie Gordon, Maxine Ross, Nancy Reese and Roberta Young, sang, accompanied by Karen Craghead. Awards were presented by A. Elwyn Seely, assistant principal in charge of the junior division, to student body officers; Diane Gary Mann, president; Jenson, vice president; Marilyn Reese, secretary; to the cheer leaders, Marilyn Hewlett, Marlene Jensen, Lois Jorgensen; and to an outstanding journalism student, Ann Wixom. Awards for attendance and. punctuality were made by Mabel Christensen. Awards Committee The awards assembly was arranged and presented under the direction of the awards committee, with S. W. Beecher as chairman and L. D. Wilde, Marion Olsen, Reta Jensen, ReNee Glover and Grant Cook as committee members. The colors were advanced by a Legion color guard under the of Eric command Seashore, commander. Binging of America and prayer were followed by the presentation of awards. The state championship baseball trophy, won Wednesday by the Box Elder nine, was presented by the team captain, Basil Williams, to Alf Freeman, presen- went to Karen Craghead, Carla Poulson, Sandra Beckert, Dixie Gordon, Maxine Ross, Nancy Reese, Roberta Young, Val Woodland and Glendon Hendricks. Art awards were presented by Lura Redd and Vera Fife, in enrecognition of tries in the 'Legion Auxiliary Poppy poster contest, to Carmen Reeder, first place, and Joan Kotter second. Mrs. Fife also presented awards to 'Billy Glover, first, and Nancy Stallings, second place winners in the American Legion essay contest. Physical education awards in basketball were presented by Vernal Harris to Harold Anderson, Larry Anderson, LaMar Davis, Kelly Farmer, Wayne Hunsaker, Richard MacFarlane, David Malmrose, Philip Oyler, Richard White and Blaine Anderson. For a second consecutive year on the scholarship list, awards were made to Richard Bosley, Marilyn Wood, John Milton Peters and Carol Olsen. Speech and dramatics awards presented by Evelyn Morgan, went to Gary Shirts, Marilyn Wood and Diane Jenson. Mrs. Mabel Nielsen of the Business and Professional Womens club presented the award for Outstanding Girl to Diane Jenson, and J. Delos Thompson of the Lions club presented the Outstanding Boy award to Kelly Farmer. SENIOR DUBLE POWER CEASS TO RECEIVE DIPLOMAS Mark Peterson, Apostle And Editor, Will Deliver Commencement Address This Evening Mark Peterson, member of the council of twelve apostles of the L. D. S. church and editor be of the Deseret News, will principal speaker at commencement exercises for the Box Elder high school class of 1949 tonight. Commencement yvill be held in the Box Elder stake tabernacle, beginning at 7:30 oclock. Alf L. Freeman, principal of Box Elder high school, announced late yesterday that 153 members of the senior class at B. E. H. S. had been promoted, and that in addition probably several service men would return for the commencement exercises to receive their diplomas. The diplomas will be conferred upon the graduates by Lawrence G. Carter, member of the Box Elder 'board of education. The Box Elder high school orchestra will play, and the boys double quartet will sing on the commencement program. There will be remarks by the president of the school board, Leonard Bishop.
