Show BISHOP M M JENSEN OF MANTUA PASSES mf AWAY while the end was mas not altogether j unexpected yet when the announcement came that dishop bishop 31 al jensen of mantua had passed away monday morning the news caused a shock to the entire community bishop jensen had been a very sick man for mank weeks during which time he suffered death a thousand times and the end was undoubtedly welchie welcome to him for it appeared that hope had fled and no earthly power could alleviate his suffering or save his life Jend eight weeks ago today bishop jensen underwent an operation for the removal of 0 a cancer which had fasten j oil ed its roots deep down alongside of oti I 1 ills his neck and for a time it was hopel hope 1 that the operation would result in i 1 permanent cure but the malady was deep seated and the bishop continued to suffer until his body became c maciatek macia inacia ted and his features almost unrecognizable to those who had not seen him for some time the trouble started several vears ago forming a sore on his lip to which he paid little attention until late in july of this year when pains developed in his neck that ordinary remedies would voul not abate lie ile accordingly we went nt down to the L D S hospital in salt lake city and submitted to an operation since then life has been indeed painful to him bishop al 34 jensen was a man whom everybody loved big hearted be arted generous sympathetic ills his soul went out to the oppressed and he was nevor never afraid to lend a helping hand where it was needed lit in Al mantua antua he was truly the father of the ward and reflected in great measure the sterling character of his noble father the late bishop peter jensen who for so many years presided over that ward martin AL jensen was born in iowa while his parents were on the way from the old country to utah december 8 1858 ile he arrived with his father and mother in salt lake city two years later the family came to belil abrl ham bam and later removed to mantua wheres alardin grew to m angood an hood F or many years lie he was the school master in the little valley and at the age of 23 25 years married miss lena jensen one week after his marriage lie he de parted on a mission to scandinavia where he labored for over two years returning home lie taught school a gain and served for several terms as county assessor having been elected to that office ire he engaged in ili the sheep industry wit with h ills his brothers and prospered for a number of years he served as an alternate high councilman and on dec C G 1908 lie he was chosen and set apart as bishop over the mantua ward ile he leaves a wife and nine children 5 boys and 4 girls the fathers death being the first one experienced in the family and their feelings can best be imagined yet after witnessing his is terrible suffering for such a long time the family feels to accept the decree of heaven and are thankful that their fathers sufferings are over bishop jensen fought a good fight and rounded out a good life that Is replete with noble deeds and it can truly be said of him that the world Is made better by ills his having lived in it for he was indeed a friend to god and man funeral services were held in the ilantha meeting house yesterday at 11 and were attended by a great many of the stake authorities from this city as well as friends who had known and loved him in life |
