gates to the state judicial distin t and congressional district conventions which will be held in ogden on frida next the at atten deuce at the convention was also greater than that of ary previous gathering ot of democrats and in celebration ot of the event many ot the party orators gave vent to their feelings and enthusiasm ran rail rampant county chairman wynn L eddy called tile the convention to order and presented judge 0 C dalby as tempora y chairman mr A B taylor was elected temporary secretary after which the call was read and then the usual three committees on oil credentials platform and resolutions and order of business vere appointed as follows i committee on credentials jesse keller IV it anderson W NV lasley J P roberts and sirs mrs ray evans committee on outlined the pro to bo be followed and also included the submission of a resolution declaring the policy of the democratic party and the convention assembled particularly with reference to the prohibition hibi tion of the liquor traffic lc tile the resolution was vas as follows report of tile the committee on resolutions tor for the democratic county convention held in the court house unconditionally endorse the statesmanlike administration of 0 woodrow wilson thru liis his wisdom and patriotism this nation is at peace with the world we pledge him our continued allegiance and support we endorse with just pride the scholarly and dignified administration of judge J D call and join headily in a demand for his and pledge our support for his reelection we denounce the unholy alliance which exists in this state between tile the republican state administration and tile liquor interests of utah the sub ser of the governor and the state legislature of these debasing influences has brought reproach upon the state at home and disgrace upon its people abroad the criminal policy of the republican administration on oil this question is acknowledged by its own people and justifies the demand deland n that its solution be placed in the hands of the democratic party we reaffirm our traditional policy in favor of state wide prohibition by legislative enactment and pledge delegates elected at this convention to work and vote only for candidates known to be in favor of this groat great measure of reform after the adoption of these reports T 11 blackburn offered a resolution which virtually placed in nomination hon milton H welling for congressman from the first district and the reading of the resolution brought prolonged applause which fell little short of a real demonstration it passed with a whoop and then a speech was demanded from the candidate mr air welling made a feeling response in which lie he thanked the convention for the splendid tribute paid him but lie he asked for time to consider the matter fully and carefully before giving ills his answer he stated that the ment came as a complete surprise to I 1 him I 1 ini and he would have to have sufficient time to weigh tile the matter before accepting the support of his fellow democrats in box elder county in making a race for congress the convention decided that in as much as three conventions were to be held in ogden that it would elect 69 delegates giving each one third of a vote and have all of them attend each convention that ruling was carried out to the letter and one with a purpose of working for any one candidate tor for governor and the sentiment was strongly opposed to have an instructed delegation so the matter rested there judge 0 C dalby was elected county chairman to succeed wynn L eddy who will serve however until after the state conventions and each of the precincts represented reported a precinct organization the chairman in which will help to form
