Winning the local competition, sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, was Robert Petersen, 154 South First West. Coming in for runnerup honors was Max Huggins, 403 South First West, while third place winner was Calvin Wheatley, RFD 1. Brigham City. Ekch of the three will receive a trophy, donated by the H. Dee Johnson Insurance Agency and Simonsens Jewelry. In addition, Petersen will receive a motor tuneup job from Sams Auto Service', while Huggins will be given a $5 merchandise award at Arts Union 78 Service, and Wheatley a similar prizei from Als Conoco Service. To win the awards, the youthful drivers had to complete a written test and demonstrate their skill at driving through a complicated obstacle course. North BE Stake Beehive Girls eve To Swarm Ionite North Box Elder Beehive will swarm tonight with girls their parents and other friends invited to attend. The meeting will be held this evening, Wednesday, May 22, beginning at 8 p. m. in the Eighth LDS ward chapeL In charge for the evening will be Mrs. Gladys Wheatley and Mrs. Florence Freeman of the stake board. The Beehive girls will present The Gentle a musical play, Witch, on a stake basis. Directing the play will be Mrs. LaVon Reeve, stake drama director, with Mrs. Nellie Wight in charge of music. During the meeting Honor Bee presentations will be made as well as graduate awards. Individual felt awards to both Gatherers and Guardians will also be presented. Refreshments will be served. Cool Weather and Showers Continue The wettest spring rain storm to in over a decade continued soak Brigham City this week with intermittent showers falling over the weekend and on Monday and Tuesday. Sundays downpour was steady through most of the day with heavy torrents of rain, thunder and lightning appearing at ,6 a. nt. and again at 6 p. m., leaving a total of 1.40 inches of moisture, a record amount for one day. Temperatures remained cooler than normal for thla time of year with fresh snow falling on the mountains surrounding Brigham City over the weekend. Brigham City has received to date more than the average amount of rainfall for this area, according to Charles Clifford, local weather observer, who reports that since Oct. 1, 1956, the beginning of the weather year, a total of 20.17 inches of moisture has been recorded. League officers will atempt to line up team sponsors today, Wednesday, so that the franchise application can be sent to association headquarter's. June 1 is the deadline for presenting applications. Meanwhife, working on the assemption that the league will be activated or that a substitute program will be provided, Friday at 3 p. m. was set for signing up players. Harold Anderson, director of the summer recreation program will meet with the boys at Rees Pioneer Park and accept these applications, a copy of which may be found in this issue. Others can be obtained at the News and Journal office or will be available at the park. Eligible for little league baseball are all boys in the nine to 12 year old group. Specifically, it includes boys who will be nine by July 31 .on up to the ones who will still be 12 years of age on that date. Try-ou- t sessions will be held after which team managers will buy their players, each of the four teams being entitled to a roster of 15 boys. Other players who cannot make the little league, will be organized into o minor league for regular season play as a part of the city recreation program. Meanwhile, signup has already been started for the pony league,' which will occupy young players in the 13 to 15 age bracket. First signup was conducted last Saturday and will continue this week for boys who are 13 or will be before July 31 or who will still be 15 by that date.
