Holland atd Mrs, Frank Earl. pedestrian lane on Brigham Citys Main Street to allow a pedestrian to cross the street Monday afternoon at 3:45 p.m., according to police records. Millroy Steed of 238 North Third West was traveling north on Main Street when he stopped at the pedestrian lane in the middle of the block. The huge truck, following behind Steed, failed to stop and crashed into the rear of the Steed car, police reports stated. Driver of the truck was Wallace LeGrande Nielson of Leamington, Utah. The truck was the property of General Refractories of Lehi, Utah. Investigating officer was Jay Christensen of the City Police, who cited Nielson for driving with faulty .brakes and causing an accident. Estimated damage to the Steed car was set at $200. There was no reported damage to the truck. In making the announcement, Dr. Daryl Chase, USAC president, said "Those who know Miss Bowen recognize in her great character, one of the occasional few in any generation who really knows what a good elementary schooling can mean to a child and to the ultimate improvement of our society. We are indeed fortunate to be able to name this fine new education in her laboratory honor, the president said. Miss Bowen, one of Utahs distinguished women educators, will receive this honor as a tribute to the contributions she has made to elementary education in this state. She is typical of many women who have spent their lives in professional education and who have done so much to bring teaching quality to its present high level. Miss Bowen served Logan city school for many years as a teacher and as elementary su She later was prin pervisor. cipal of the Whittier training school and director of elemcn tary student teaching at USAC, a position she held until her retirement in 1946. During the following school year, an additional honor came to her when the Utah State Agricultural college dedicated a collection of books concerning child education and books for children to Miss Bowen, naming it the Edith Bowen Library Collection. The collection occu pies a special shelf in the USAC library. Miss Bowen retired from the college as professor emeritus, She makes her home in Brig ham City with a niece. Miss Stella Young, at Intermountain school. Mrs. Frank (Mary) Holman of Brigham City is also Miss Bowens niece.
