The Ogden game last week left them hobbled where several players are concerned. Defensive tackle Robert Ward suffered a knee strain and probably wont see action this Friday. Another defensive lineman, Jerome Schmidt, out for a couple of weeks with a nagging ankle injury, is not expected to play Friday. Frank Zerkle, also nursing an ankle hurt, is questionable for the Bear River fray. However, Ladd Walker who keys the Hive defense at middle linebacker, is slated for duty. They just cant seem to keep him out. The is performing with a protective device on his right arm which has a hairline fracture. And in the Ogden game, he was decked, had to be helped from the field limping on an ankle bearing the scars of earlier surgery. Within minutes, however, he was up and begging to go back in. Let me see you run, demanded the coach. Walker sprinted down the sideline. Get in there, Workman ordered. And it might be added here that when the youngster returned to the field of battle, it was to a warm reception from his mates and a cheer from the crowd. x (4-2- (4-2- Guard-lineback- 0 Bee-Bea- No Illusions Coach Bill Jacobsen brings no illusions into the contest. Adams is a good passer, says the coach, and proves to carry the ball when necessary. And its the BR secondary that has given the opposing offenses their best gains, he adds. Defensively, I'm not worried about Box Elders running game. There hasnt been a team that could move the ball consistently against us on the ground. But I have been the coach disappointed in our secondary, said, referring to the South game of the week before when the Cubs used that means to win Other Bright Spots The Ogden game also had some other bright 22-- Jacobsen has some concerns about his offense. With his lame arm, Walker cant center the ball so well and defensive end Lane Velasquez took over that chore in yeoman style. Marlin Jensen, the fine receiver at split end, did the punting and did it well. Fullback Mike Hinchman proved once fullback, adding again that he is a a needed dimension to the Bees running attack. And running backs Kevin Farnsworth and Brent Gray took turns on a series of reverse running plays to help keep one touchdown drive alive. These are some of the people that Hive faithful hope will turn in another victory against Bear River, they and a host of other Bees who began the season as untested gridders but who now are seasoned veterans. Weve got to go with the best people we can. We need a win, Coach Workman said again, looking to Fridays traditional clash. pile-drivi- Inconsistent Offense The Bear offense has been totally inconsistent this season except for the win over Judge Memorial in the opening game. The Bulldogs have had one of the better teams the Bears faced this year, he believes. And moving the ball wont be easy against the Bee linebacker corps, said Jacobsen. "Theyre real good ones, he says, quick and strong. Jacobsen says the entire season has been so far and a win over the disappointing (2-Bees could salve some of the bitter wounds of defeat. The coach predicts a few surprises for their rivals. Weve got nothing to lose, he savs. It depends on how motivated Box Elder is. If our kids play like it is a rivalry, it will be close like last year. A handful of important games are in the offing, headed by the always vital Bear River-BoElder clash. Ben Lomond is at Davis, Logan at Woods Cross and South at Ogden in other contests. Box Elder is the region's second place team due to wins over Ogden ) and Ben Lomond so the Scots and Tigers will be using ) their respective games as a spring board to a playoff. is a favorite to whip Davis, of course, at the Scots. Ogden is favored over South and that right there could settle any third place disputes. The Logan and Woods Cross game is mainly r for glory. And the matchup for the Golden Spike pits rival against rival in what can make or break a season. This year, its that situation for Bear River. The Bees scored the winning touchdown with four seconds remaining in the game after the Tigers had knotted the count at 44-3- l. It came off a screen pass with Van Jepperson tossing to Mark D. Thompson who, accompanied by a convoy of blockers, sprinted 30 yards to score. This all occurred after the Bees had gotten possession on a fumble with only seven seconds left in the contest. One pass play went for naught and then the winning play was accomplished. Neither team ever led by more than one touchdown. Ogden scored just before the half to go ahead, In the first half alone there were three touchdowns scored on pass plays that went for 70 yards or more in the wide-ope- n duel. Rick Nielsen had an outstanding game at running back for us, said Coach Tom Stewart. Nielsen gained 120 yards on 17 carries and scored four touch28-2- downs. Running back Mark D. Any boy living within Box Elder county is eligible to participated in this program if he is between the ages of 11 and 14 years. This league has been supported by Brigham City businessmen and parents of the boys. Usually parents welcome the opportunity to coach. Again, this year the program is in need of coaches. We welcome coaches back from last year, but we might end up with a shortage of coaches. To evade that happening we want to solicit new coaches into the program, says Jack Winn, recreation director.
