Ensign said local support for the race has been excellent with the local Rotary club donating trophies to the first three finishers in each of the six divisions. Trophies will be presented at noon at the community center with J. This years event is slated for May 13 at Bear River High school. Should that Friday be rained out, the Pentathlon will be held May 20, according to Charles (Tuff) Claybaugh, publisher of the News and Journal. North Park school of the twice defending champion in the elementary division, set a record 10,035 points for a three member team last year. That team was composed of Kelly Christensen, Darrin Watson and Stanley Summers. Central school was second with 9,420 points and Bunderson was third at 9,301. Junior Title Bear River Junior High swept the junior division title with Kevin Robbins, Scott Smith and Barry Hess finishing from the school. And the senior crown went to Box Elder Junior High which had two of three places, with a first and third. Zane Checketts was first in the division and Scott Youngberg was third. Brian Pugsley of Bear River Junior High was second. The Pentathlon is receiving hearty endorsement again this year from the Box Elder School District. Les Dunn, director of the Community School program, will be meet director. Interest in the Pentathlon has grown each year and 1977 should prove to be the best event yet. Schools are allowed to send the top three athletes in each division plus event winners in each class. Well over a hundred athletes, both boys and girls, participated at the event held at Box Elder High school last year.
