Show PUTTING PATRIOTISM TO WORK I Calling to mind the plight of millions in occupied German Ger-man areas in Europe Belgium, Holland, France, Denmark and Norway, fills Americans with sympathy for the desperate economic state of the residents in these countries, which is bound to become even more serious this winter. Our sympathy for their distress is all the more keen because be-cause so many of our citizens have relatives and dear ones in the old countries. The war in Europe continues to involve innocent peoples peo-ples of one small country after another. Mixed with our mental distress comes the realization of the many blessings our democratic government has given us-We us-We know, too, an insecurity, a fear that at any time a combination of unhappy circumstances will alter our position. Our nation may be cast for an attire part in a titanic world struggle. If by some miracle we escape actual participation in the battle, we have the unhappy certainty that our country is not immune to the diseases of Europe- As a part of the world, United States has obligations, weaknesses for internal disturbance and economic upset-There upset-There is no guarantee that an ailment in one section of the globe may not spread to another. Our nation could blunder into horror. We can, as in the past, find ourselves facing social upset. Right now we are strong in the reality of a blessed peace. Our appreciation for the great adventure of democracy, of advance in civilization, of conquest in the world of ideas and successful government, is keen. Tuesday is election day. When, as voters we go to the polls, let it be with the prayerful hope that this solemn obligation of citizenship, this privilege above price, will always be ours-In ours-In the Tenth precinct there are in the neighborhood of 3000 voters registered. In 1938 election about 1833 people voted in the district and in 1936 a total of 2030 voters cast ballots. In the primary election this fall 1308 voters appeared at the polls and in the runoff 1145 expressed preference for candidates by ballot- As a citizen, show your interest in your government, your country, by voting!
