BUSINESS TO SOLVE UN-EMPLOYMENT A now economic era, with busi-ness assuming the responsibility for unemployment, Is dawning, in the opinion of Colonel Arthur Woods, Chairman of the Presi-dent's. Emergency Committee for Employment. "Arising out of this and earlier depressions," Colonel Woods says, "we have the leginning of an era in which business management realizes Its responslblity toward the continuous employment of the pro-ducing unit, which Is also the con-suming unit. Business men know today that their employees are al-so their customers." lie made it clear that plans of In-dividual corporations for relieving or preventing unemployment so far had been "experimental," but expressed belief that while no com-mon plan had emerged, "common principles are beginning to be ap-parent." It may be that the depression will prove the means of developing an industrial consciousness that will prevent unemployment in the fu-ture. KITE-FLYIN- G MAY BE A DANGEROUS PASTIME A number of child fatalities re-sult ing last year from the seeming-- ly innocent diversion of kite-flyin- g has led the National Safety Coun-cil to Issue u warning which, It Is hoped, will reduce or eliminate the casualties during (he approaching season. "The chief danger," the warning reads, "is from electric shock, as evidenced in reports from various parts of the country a year ago. Wire used for kite strings is al-ways dangerous, in that it may come in contact with high tension wires. Wet string, too, acts as a conductor. "Children should never go near wires to retrieve their kites when they become entangled. It is much better to lose the kite than lose your life. "Another ever-prese- hazard in kite-flyin- g is that of being run down in the street by passing automo-biles," the Council says. "This sport, like that of coasting and playing ball, is only safe when car-ried on away from traffic."
