Smith Who Is In The East And Has Secured A Loan Of $200,000 From The Government To-Finan- The Rebuilding Of This Institution The Loan Will Be For Five Years At A Low Rate Of Interest ::v'-';:i-:-"- The best news which has reached; Provo for some weeks was a message from Manager John S. Smith of the Knight Woolen Mills who Is now in Washington to secure federal aid for the rebuilding of the factory. In r a wire to Jesse Knight he states that $200,000 can be secured as a loan at five per cent and this amount is to be paid back at the rate of J40.000 each year. This money wilU be used for rebuilding the mills and some new machinery has already been purchas-ed by Mr. Smith for the new factory. The Knight Investment will be ask-- ed e this big loan and perhaps other parties may be asked to help secure this loan. Air. Smith also stated that he had secured preferen-tial shipping privileges for the mach-inery which he has purchased. Jesse Knight wired his reply and stated that the Investment Company will be willing to act aa security and that there will be no tronble in secur-ing other responsible signers if these are desirable. - When the mills' are rebuilt they will be the most modern and-ln this rwestern country and they will be enabled to compete with any factory in the United States. Heretofore they have been somewhat handicapped in that their machinery haa been obsolete. ' On IMr. Smith's return the whole matter Including the results of Mr. Smith's investigations on the purch-ase of machinery, etc., will be pre-sente-to the Woolen Mills board of directors for consideration and ac-tion. CICI PEID OF : THE MAT HAND WASHINGTON EXPERTS BELIEVE HUNS INTEND TO MAKE STAND IN NEW P03ITIONS. . Germans Expected to Desperately ' Strike Back, Now That They Have Been Driven Back to Where They Started From In March. - Washington. With the German army standing today substantially in the positions It occupied before" last March 21, when its greatest offensive was launched, it appears certain to of-ficials here that the next few days will see the plans of the opposing com-manders revealed. The statement in the official Ger-man communique that "our new lines" had everywhere been occupied, is giv-en only one construction here. Ap-parently it was Intended to mean that the retirement had come to an end and that the Germans expected to stop the allied advance along the old front. In that event, It was said the light forces of the French, British and American X armies will soon reach this defensive : position and subsequent operations j . Quickly show bow Marshal Foch pro-poses to assail the problem that baffled the French and British gen-eral staffs the breaking of this ad-vanced line of defense set up by the enemy on Belgian and French solL Allies Feeling Their Way. It was evident from the latest report that the allied forces were, still feeling their way forward carefully through th rear guard screens of machine gunners which still cover many por-tions of the enemy's present fighting front Behind the screen the Ger-mans were believed to have reoccuplcd the old Hindenburg defenses, which . - probably have been repaired and sup-plemented co that they are again a formidable barrier. There Is a feeling among some of. - flcials that the enemy is likely to sig-nalise 1U intention to stand fast by striking back hard at the advancing French and British forces, or even by an attack at some other point designed to relieve pressure rather than to . achieve any decisive result ln the way of capturing towns. It is argued that If the German high command has' made available a sufficient reserve force by the great withdrawal to permit such operations, a limited drive, possibly on the front held by General Pershing's army beyond Verdun, might well be thought advisable. Much Expected from Foch, ' On the allied side It remulus to be seen whether Foch plans a flank-lu- g operation on a wide front to turn the enemy, put out his new lines, and keeping hlra moving back, or will con-tinue to hit at weak BpoU oil along the front Opinion here Is that the larger enterprise Is the most probable, siui'e vlrtuully the entire American nrmy Is available as a fresh, hard-hittin- g force with which to deliver a coup aimed at the breaking of the Ger- - man front. There Is no doubt that mnny officers here repard the days immediately ahead as probably the crucial period or the whole battle of 1013. In fact there are boys who have enrolled in school during the past few days who never had the slightest idea of such a thing some week? ago. Some of them are trying to write poetry and others are trying to think up a lot of nice things to' say to her. Jealous? You bet. Even some of the boys are thinking how nice it would be if all the other boys were in Flanders or Purgatory, or some place of the kind so they would be out of the way. Some of the boys have almost wor-ried themselves sick trying to think out some soothing, softening, envel-oping method in the gentle art of making love, and these are the boys who as yet have not.had the pleasure of an Introduction; but they are hop-ing and praying that their fine physi-ognomies, classic profiles, chiseled features, splendid physiques and their manly bearing and gentlemenly con-duct will win for them favor in the eyes of this angelic this goddesa of love this queen of the canyon.
