Show SIIOITFEIICES Winter, with its snow and snowdrifts snow-drifts will soon be here, but 'as yet nothing has been done to place snow fences along the Bingham Canyon highway to bring bis menace to a minimum. It will be remembered that several times last winter, the road leading to and from Salt Lake City was impassable, impas-sable, and for a time it was only after the efforts of private snow plows that cars were able to navigate. After considerable wrangling, and many visits to the county commissioners' office, the road repartmcnt of this august body finally decided to . keep the road open, although it is said that other sections of the county were always al-ways in possession of a Snow plow and were never bothered for any length of time with closed roads. From good authority comes the report re-port that when spring , set in this year, the county commissioners discussed dis-cussed putting up snow fences in order or-der that the road to Bingham Canyon Can-yon be kept open for traffic throughout through-out the coming winter. This was a most brilliant idea, - and is highly commendable, but as yet nothing has been done. Probably " the countv commissioners waited all summer until un-til the ground became frozen, so that it would take, so much longer to place the fences, but this, .according to reports re-ports is not the case, as the ground has been frozen for some time, and as has been said, nothing has been done. . - Of course, it coutd be that the commissioners com-missioners are waiting for some real heavy snows to set in so that it would be an impossibility to do any work on the "flat," and when the , good people of Bingham Canyon asked for an open road they would show these good folks of their plans earlier in the spring, which, it is said, is supposed sup-posed to keep the tax payers of this district quiet for a short time. , The truth of the matter is that the Bingham Canyon highway needs tnow rTiljtt-lfrlTfTltlb'fc'pl open throughout the winter, these fences must be placed, so why tarry? Snow or no snow, cold or no cold, let us have the fences. The people of this community fully appreciate the fact that there will be an election next fall, and that much work will be done on the roads of this section at that time, but next fall will be too late for this winter's snow fences. It might be well to enlighten enlight-en the commissioners that a snow fence in between elections is worih two during an election. |
