School students competing pr fr-- By Hazel E. Park BILLY JO SPEARS, one of Nashvilles leading ladies of Country Music will appear in concert, by popular request, Friday, May 16 at the N.C.O. Club at Hill Field. We met this charming and talented entertainer while at Fan Fair 79 in Nashville and found her to be one of the friendliest vocalists in Show Biz. Billy Jo turns old stan-dareinto classics. Her hits are many, and now with United Artist she records on EMI label. Billy Jo s many Utah fans will also welcome her at the Westerner in Salt Lake City, May 18 at 9 p.m. Our good friend, Helen Pulley of Nashville, referred Leo' Suiter of Daleville, Alabama, to this column for a review on Leos latest recording on Denim Label. We are happy to report that the record has mighty fine potentials. We reviewed Leos latest release with Alice Moore, Board member of Golden Spike Country Music who has this to say ; Angel Without Wings, should be a winner. The music which is traditional country music and the lyrics are beautifully done. Janet Burnett was equally impressed with the flip side, Stand in Woman, is chart material and the original song should go far. This is easy listening and we are hopeful that the record will get the ratings it so richly deserves. Utah Country Music fans can judge for themselves when the record is given airplay over the International Jubilee which originates over KDYL in Tooele, 990on your radio dial. We have received several calls from area Country Music buffs, that Utahs own Songfellows were again heard on the Jubilee this week. Very well if you dont love me, made the In the written exam taken by 140 students from spven junior high schools, six Wahlquist students placed in the top ten. Carmell Jackson got the highest score on the written exam, and Cheryl Schaffer placed second. Guy Gaines came in fourth, Rita Scott fifth, and Sharee Clarke and Mike Holmes tied for tenth place. .
