Last Saturday at Weber High, Coach Joe James and a few others made the gymnasium their home for the day due to the annual Weber Holiday Wrestling mat-huggi- Invitational. head coach of The first-yewrestling, who has assisted other coaches in building a top quality wrestling program at Weber, arrived at the school at 5:30 in the morning and didnt leave until at least 10 p.m. that evening. Warriors On the Move Weber, the defending dualmeet champion in Region One, was plaqued by injuries in the early part of the season, but appears now, to' be headed back into contention for the regions top honors. The Weber tournament, despite the second place finish; probably did more for the Weber team than most fans would realize. James claims that the tournament exposure helped immensely in preparing the more inexperienced wrestlers for further competition. Coach James was also impressed with how well th tournament was run by his assistant coach, Dennis Peart. "Many of the coaches from other schools came to me after the meet, complimenting the smooth way in which the tournament was handled, said the coach. James says his Warriors are not where he wants them to be yet, but says it shouldnt take much longer for things to be where he would be satisfied. Injuries have curtailed the Warriors from being a stronger team. Take for instance Junior Ricky Tanner who has suffered from nagging pains with a back injury Another is Joe Oram, who CONTMUCD ON PAG! IS DANNY EASTMAN of Weber and Alan Watson of Bonneville were in the minds of most coaches for balloting of the Weber Invitational's MVP wrestler. n |
