Carolyn Allred, daughter of Rama and Dean Allred, won in the fifth grade competition. Both girls attend Green Acres Elementary. These are just of a few of the problems that faced Weber Highs top spellers at the school Spelling Bee held last March 15. All morning, 30 students were matched against each other in oral spelling competition. Representing the seniors and winning the competition for their class were: Jolynn abuse Roper, Cheri Droesbeke, Dawn Cattam, Twyla McNaire, Paula Janis, Diana Jensen, Robyn Hubert. These students represented Weber at the District Spelling Bee. The Senior winners were: first place, Jolynn Roper; second place, Paula Jams and third place, Robyn Hubert. Mahas, IRENE SHANKULAS second grade class at Green Acres Elementary School, made Easter bonnets at school and then brought clothes from home (Mom and Dad s clothes) and paraded around the school. The top junior speller was Rulan Eames. Second place was awarded to Jan Hale and third place to Bonnie Thurber. Sue Shnber won first place in the sophomore com- petition. Noreen Jackson took second and Mary Ammen won third. These nine students then competed in district com- petition. Jolynn Roper won first place in the Senior division of the District Contest. Robyn Hubert placed third. Junior speller Bonnie Thurber won first place in her division, and Noreen Jackson spelled her way to a second place award in the Sophomore Category.
