As an indication of the belief of the highways and bridges committee of the house of representatives that the proposed pro-posed state road expenditures should be materially increased, that body on January 1S introduced in the house a bill providing for a bond issue of $5-000,000 $5-000,000 for roads. Brigadier General Richard W. Young made a plea to the house of representatives on January 2S for consideration con-sideration to he exhibited toward men who are returning from the military and naval services of the United States. Members of the house were asked to favor any nnd all legislation which would have the c.Tect of creating employment em-ployment and consequently relieving the situation as it was affected by the number of men available for employ-men employ-men t. Although the legislature has not, ns yet, passed a bill to effect the constitutional consti-tutional amendments in regard to the assessing of Utah coal mines at their full value, Dr. William Peterson, ntnte geologist, has been assigned to this duty. This assignment of Professor Peterson is expected to facilitate tne work of assessing these mines, and supplement the work of the slate board of equalization. The senate on January 27 amended Senator McKinney's bill providing for. seven district judges in the Third district, dis-trict, by changing the number to six, and then, under suspension of the rules passed the measure on its third and final reading. A bill lias been introduced by Senator Sena-tor Chez adding the new county of Daggett to the Third judicial district instead of the Second. Senator Stevens is hack of a measure meas-ure that makes railroad companies operating steam roads liable for all damages caused by fire started by sparks from engines.
