Show Mayor Freed of Conspiracy Charge. Philadelphia. Thomas B. Smith, mayor of Philadelphia, the last of the principal figures to be brought to trial in the Fifth ward political row which resulted in the killing of a policeman at the primary election in September, 1917, was acquitted Friday by a Jury, of tlie charges of misdemeanor in office of-fice and conspiracy to violate an election elec-tion law which prohibits city officeholders office-holders from taking an active part in politics. |
