The 'murder was committed about fifteen years ago. "We have interviewed several long time residents of this county and have been able to glean the following follow-ing facts in regard to this tragedy of the past, the like of which were not infrequent incidents in the early history of, the settlement of the western states. Mr. Penny and his son were on - .e-.dng trip in the Wah Wah mouutdins west of Newhouse. They came to a camp of Gypsy or Indian wanderers one evening and decided to camp with them. They had a team and wagon and outfit for camping camp-ing and prospecting. The two neither father nor son were ever afterward seen alive. Some time later, the wagon and some of the other belongings of the two unfortunate unfor-tunate prospectors was found in a wash near Minersville. The skull and bones of the elder Mr. Penny with sufficient remnants of clothing to Identify the remains were foirhd a few years since by Peter Johanson of Newhonse, some distance from the original camp of the Gypsy band. Several arrests were made soon after af-ter the crime became known by the officers who tried to find the guilty murderers, but not sufficient evidence evi-dence could be secured to hold or convict those suspected of the crime. It is said a Mr. Albert or George Penny, a relative of the murdered men resides at Fillmore, in Millard county. |
