Show IT'S A BAD BARGAIN - BUT, WE'D BETTER TAKE IT! Last Wednesday at the Beaver County School Board meeting, there was an exchange that we find interesting. Seems a young teacher had talked with three of the board members and was interested in a teaching position within the district. But when the teacher contacted Supt. Bliss's office about a job, was told there was no opening available. At the meeting Supt. Bliss reported on several teachers teach-ers who would not be returning to the systetn next year. Karl Truman, chairman of the board, commenting on these openings, asked why this young teacher had been told there were no openings. Bliss and Truman then exchanged exchang-ed a few words and it wound up something like this Bliss asked Truman if he was calling him a liar. Truman said, "No, but he felt his word was as good as Bliss's." Bliss said, If he was being called a liar, he would hand in his resignation. Truman said, "You say that every meeting. If you (Bliss) will turn yours in, I'll turn one in too!" It's a bad bargain But we'd better take it! Karl Truman has been a very good board member for Imany years .conscientious, fair, honest, and above board. He has (treated both ends of the county with equal fairness, and with an even-handedness that speaks highly of integrity and concern for students and teachers alike. At all times he has watched the purse strings, keeping in mind the parents and property owners who foot the bill. The loss .of this man to the district, even for a short period would be great! But he could file for re-election this fall and we are sure the vote would be unanimous to return him to the board. Therefore, we say, "It's a bad bargain but, we'd better take it!" "Red" |
