Show Coal lease issued UP & L The first two competitive coal leases issued under the new Federal Coal Leasing Program have been awarded to Utah Power & Light of Salt Lake City. According to MaxNielson, Coal Program Manager, the Bureau of Land Management presented the documents to the power company October G as a result of a competitive competi-tive lease sale conducted July 30, 1981. The 3,347 acre Cottonwood tract contains an estimated 57.8 million tons of in -place reserves located approximately approxi-mately 10 miles northeast of Castle Dale in Emery County. The Meetinghouse Canyon tract contains an estimated es-timated 31 millon tons of in-place in-place reserves about nine miles northwest of Huntington Hunting-ton In Emery County. Bonus bids totaled $10,544,000 and $856,000 respectively. Nielson said that the Bureau plans to offer other coal tracts in Emery County for competitive lease sale In February of 1982. He pointed out that 50 of all mineral revenues collected by BLM are paid to the state of Utah. |
