Show M Gisiuo plops' f oggIi David Crook, 6'3", 2101b. Jr. from Beaver, defensive end for SUSC has been named the RM Athletic Conference Defensive player of the week. Crook, who has played as a regular since his sophomore season, was instrumental in the 27-12 Thunderbird Victory Vic-tory over University of Southern Colorado last week. "Our entire defense did a super job. In a total team defensive effort like that,it is hard for one player to stand out from the pack, but Dave certainly did," Jack Bishop, SUSC Coach points out. In the game, Crook had a total of 17 tackles, and eleven of them were unassisted or solos. For the day he tackled ' ball carriers for loss yard - age seven times, and sacked the opposing quarterback four times. Single handedly, he caused 60 yards loss for i Southern Colorado. SUSC is cur- rently in a three-way tie for leadership in the three -state RMAC (Utah, Colo, New Mexico) with a 3-1 league record. In all games, the T -Birds have won four times and lost twice. C rook is one of the three former Beaver High School players on the Southern Utah State College team this year. Also on the squad are fresh- men Jeff Cox and Craig Blackner. Cox, 6'2", 205 is a linebacker;Blackner 6'2" 195, is playing as defensive end for the Thunderbirds. Earlier this season, SUSC quarterback Ben Bucak,Lay-ton, Bucak,Lay-ton, was selected at the conference con-ference offensive player of the week. |
