At4:41 pm., Pat Rimpau moved that the Board go into an executive closed session. The motion was seconded by Gary T. Brown and unanimously approved. At 5:25 p.m.. Pat Rimpau nioved that the Board come out of the executive session. This motion was seconded by Richard L. De Anmitt and unanimously approved. 15. It was moved by Richard L. De Armitt that the Board approve the coaching positions submitted for both Beaver and Milford High Schools. As a part of his motion, Mr. De Armitt moved that district staff develop an incentive and evaluation plan for all coaches and that a standard of leadership be defined for all programs. Mr. De Armitt concluded his motion by requesting that a full list of coaches be submitted next Board meeting for Milford High School. This entire motion was seconded by Norman L. Lamb and it was approved by the Board in a 4-1 vote. Mr. Gary T. Brown voted no. 16. The Board reviewed possible insurance rate increases for the coming year. They generally favored efforts by district staff to keep the rates as low as possible while maintaining quality health and dental coverage for district personnel. 17. Pat Rimpau reported that she had been selected to serve on a committee that selects candidates to run for the Utah Milford Resident Will Represent Utah at the National Pork Producers Leadership Institute Milford, Producers UT— Council The (NPPC) National Pork has chosen Katie - Elmer to represent Utah Pork Producers and Circle Four Farms at the 1998 Pork Producers Leadership Institute in July. Selected participants will overview various NPPC activities including: Pork Demands Enhancement Programs, Pork Producer Educational Programs, Pork Promotional Katie Elmer Programs, and Export Programs, and the On Farm Environmental Odor Assistance Program. . Elmer and her fellow participants will also attend meetings in Washington D.C. where hats will State Board of Education. hear speakers reviewing several topics related to the pork industry and witness the government in action. Mr. Melvyn Osborn and Mr. Todd Bradshaw reported to the Board that despite stiff competition, a district application of $33,000 dollars for the 1998-99 school-to-careers program had been accepted. The school-to-careers and work-based learning programs were discussed and samples of projects were presented. We have an excellent program in our district and the Board praised the work of Mr. Osborn and Mr. Bradshaw. 11. Petersen work with staff at both high schools to make their month-end finance reports to the Board more understandable and similar. Dr. Petersen was encouraged to make the needed changes by the June Board meeting. This motion was unanimously passed. In addition, Business Administrator Robert D. Petersen was asked to work with district custodial staff to develop cleaning and maintenance schedules. 22. There being no further business to come Program in our district was recently reviewed by a team from Iron County. The Iron County team enthusiastically endorsed the Beaver district program. Mr. Donald J. Willden commented that even state officials have used our program as an example for others to follow. The Board was very supportive and grateful; they encouraged district staff to keep up the good work on ~ Comprehensive Guidance. 12. The Board reviewed bids for landscaping the vacant site where the old’ Beaver High School used to stand. President Robert L. Strong declared a conflict of interest and removed himself from the discussion. Superintendent Henry E. It was moved by Richard L. De Armitt and seconded by Gary T. Brown that a request to have vending machines at Beaver High School be tabled for further discussion at the next Board meeting. This motion was unanimously passed. Lamb abstained from voting until he could learn more about job. 2? Milford Elementary School Richard L. De Armitt, the Board representative to the newly established Youth Court, reported that the Josten Corporation had donated eight robes to be used by youth judges. Mr. De Armitt is also the Board representative to the Utah State Division of Risk current job responsibilities include; the pre paration of waste handling construction and groundwater discharge permit applications, waste m anagement, groundwater monitoring, odor issues, and implementing environmental programs. Katie is also involved in the Circle Four Farms Community Advisory Committee, Education Committee, and Charitable Contributions C ommittee. In addition, Elmer is currently in the process of becoming a certified NPPC On-Farms Environmental/Odor Assessor which will allow her to help other pork operations raise their level of environmental stewardship. Elmer states, “A chance to discuss the hurdles facing the pork industry, meet the future pork leaders, and experience the U.S. government that is becoming more involved in regulating pork production will be an opportunity for me to develop the knowledge and skills to face tomorrows pork issues.” She is excited about the opportui nity to represent the Utah Pork Producers and Circle Four Farms at the Leadership Institute and consi ders this an honor for her and Circle Four as well. According to Circle Four Constru ction Team Leader Erik Jacobsen, “Circle Four Farms is proud to have Katie Elmer chosen to represent the Utah Pork Producers. We know she’ll do an excellent Academic Honors Banquet School Year 1997-1998 MAY 14, 1998 technology conference that same day in Cedar City.
