The Milford Memorial Skyline Site for Boar/Stud Unit On February 18th, the Beaver County Planning and Zoning Board OK’d amending Conditional Use Permit 97-7 to include a Boar/Stud unit in the Circle Four Farms Skyline Pyramid,.south and west.of Milford. One. of the conditions imposed in the effected May 21, 1997 nursery/finishing C.U.P. was that the company would not ask for any more permits at Skyline, and that further C.U.P.’s will be evaluated based on odor control of the Skyline Pyramid. In mid-1997, after heated controversy, the cone, was granted permit #97-5 to build the Boar/Stud unit west of Milford. They were unable to find water at that site. Eric Jacobsen, company spokesperson, told the planning board that they have looked at a number of other locations during the past few months. None have proved to be suitable. Jacobsen said that, given the number of sows depending on artificial insemination to keep the hog project progressing, construction of the Boar/Stud facility is nearing the emergency stage. The company is reportedly oakine at innovative technology for lagoon management, which could significantly reduce odor and better dispose of accumulated waste. According to Jacobsen, the 350 head Boar/Stud unit is too small to make implementation practical at the site. Total volume of lagoons at the site is below the limit to require a groundwater discharge permit from the state. Monitoring wells were, however, made a condition of issuing the permit. An additional condition is that the planning board is restricted from accepting applications for future permits in Skyline. District Spelling Bee from New England. By The Way..... Bonnie and Dennis Hardy married in 1970 and Bonnie started her beauty shop on Main street with 2 chairs. After starting a family she had to give it up till 1982. They built in the carport of their home and installed a salon. This is located at 419 N. 100 E. Chad Eckley, LaDell Bealer. The Milford High School Freshman basketball team was officially recognized on the Wall of Fame for their championship season. The team was undefeated in league play for the entire season. Congratulations.....Tiger fans are looking forward to next year. Another has Lions Club Peace Poster graduated cosmetology school and is undecided where she will locate. This certainly is a family tradition. The salon in the home has an atmosphere’ that a~ commercial: shop does not have. Bonnie is very artistic and it shows in way her yard and shop decorated. She has 5 children 7 grandchildren and when working the are and not in the salon she tends Buffy's children. A good business and great operators. Being born in Minnesota and growing up in a small town in the 30's, I'm sure I entertained myself in a very different way than kids of this era do. In fact my own children were raised. much differently. Kids attitudes and expectations are completely changed from then, but it's been a lot of years since I grew up in the depression era when it was of no use to nag for anything. The money wasn't there. We thought everyone was on our financial level and most of them were. When I look back and really take a good look at how kids grew up, their life styles and the people they turned out to be, it wasn't too bad. Some memories are of my favorite of myself and schoolmates gathering to skate on our meandering Shellrock river that ran through our town. Oh what fun with our friends, and of course it didn't cost a penny. Never mind that the skates I had on were boy's skates and hand me downs at that! This type of thing was our enjoyment for most of the Left to right: Ray Green, town and these aren’t located too far apart. We would light bon fires and with plenty of warm clothes The spelling bee for Beaver County School District was held on February 18, 1998 at the Milford High School Auditorium. Five contestants from each school in the district competed for a chance to participate in the state competition. The top three winners were as follows: Brook Holm Champion, Paula Porter Second Place, Kristen Kesler Third Place. Belknap Elementary School won the right to hold the traveling school trophy. All contestantts are commended for their hard work and dedication to reach this level of competition. Brook Holm, daughter of Rodney and Mary Jo Holm, will be representing Beaver School District at the state competition to be held Friday, March 29 at Salt Lake: Community College Grand Theater, 1575 South State Street Salt Lake City, Utah. (See page 5 for more) we all could manage to stay warm. I would venture to say that local, district, state and national level, with a national grand prize of $2,500 Jocob Potter Sophomore Basketball Tournament After topping Wayne 49-48 in the first game of the tournament, the sophomore Tigers again gained victory with a 61-50 win over Piute. quarter. Don Stucker invited MHS students to form their own Leo’s Club. Young Leo’s gain experience from community projects and association with the adult club. Nationally, the Lions Club sponsors $5 million in scholarships. The “Outstanding Leo” in each district gains recognition and scholarship assistance. The July 4th barbeque - the trees on Main Street - upgrades at the Pavilion and Caboose Park.......all are thanks to the local club. The Lions Club chose “A World of Peace” as the theme for this year’s contest. Winners were chosen on a of different options in winter sports.
