Miss Louise - River Future Fanners Start Building Museum at High School More Three years ago the Bear River Chapter of Future Farmers started a chapter project which if continued should be a great asset in building at Bear River Hieh School a museum that would attract attention from far and near. It was the opinion of the rhnntpr members at that time that Bear River High School was a logical place for a museum containing tne birds of the Bear River Bay Region, so an effort was put forth to procure the mutual shipment or mountea water birds for such a museum. A collection of five mounted water fowl was nrocured from Mr. Walter Gil- taxidermist at Oeden. in 1928. In 1929 ten more birds were added and in 1930 ten more, making a total up fn Hnfo nf twenty five, which include the following species: Two falard widducks, two spoon bill duck, one ducks, teal cinamon two geon duck, two . in tail t ducks, t three , red head d gube, ducks, "one coat, one one night herm, one grent, blue herm, pied-bille- complete ed water fowl in America! At least the chapter mem bers are hoping so. The government is building large dykes and river controls at the bay to provide greater resting facilities for water birds. It is said that this project will exceed $300,000 in cost and is advertised as the world's greatest game and sanctuary. The logical place for a water fowl museum is at the Bear River High School the educational center of Bear River Valley. Springville High School is noted for its collection of m aster MODERNIZE B.R. Besides the above collection of water fowl one horned owl, one sage hen and one cipmonk; rounds out the number of mounted speciments. $153.00 has been spent by chapter members for the collection and the show cases have been appropriated by the school. The collection at present is housed in the agriculture' depart ment but it is hoped that some day a room may be set aside to house the museum. It is interesting to note that over 275 species of water fowl frequent the Bear River Bay Region each year. Very few remain here all year but travel from the Gulf of Mexico to the Ar tic circle in their migrations. Perhaps no region in the United States could boast of so many water fowl fre quenting its waters, as we can right here in Bear River Valley. It is estimated that to abtain a mounted specimen of the Lde and fe male birds of all the species of water fowl above mentioned that the cost would exceed $2000 for birds alone. It is the hope of chapter members to appeal to sportsmen to help put over the project.
