Show Deer Hunting iniSouthern Utah Rates Poorest in Many Years Fish and Game Department Extends Season As a result of action taken by the Utah Fish and Game Department De-partment in continuing the general gen-eral deer season in 22 major hunting areas of the state, a good share of the southern Utah, and possibly the northern Utah, hunters will have an opportunity opportun-ity to again go into the mountains moun-tains to attempt to make a kill. A number of factors have resulted re-sulted this season to make it one of the poorest hunts on record rec-ord in southern Utah. Inclement weather on the opening week end was detrimental to the ma-jorlty ma-jorlty of the hunters, but those who have been out since that time, up until Tuesday evening, final day of the regular hunt, were fortunate to see a deer, let alone shoot one. Some parties were successful, but a high percentage of hunters from this area who year after year have brought in bucks, went deerless this season. Complaints from this area have been, not of the weather, but rather rat-her the lack of deer in the usually us-ually good hunting areas of this section of the state. The Department, nevertheless, said holders of regular big game licenses and tags who have not yet bagged a deer may still go afield through November 3 or later, in all 22 of the areas where extended seasons hunts were set by the Utah Board of Big Game Control. In addition. In four areas the season Is continuous through November 24. The West Zion hunting unit has been designa-ted designa-ted In this group. Regular license hunting will be re-opened on a weekend only basis during late November and in early December on 16 hunting areas after the November 3 closure clo-sure In these areas and those holding unused additional doe tags were reminded by the fish and game that these may be used on nine of the 22 areas still open to hunting.
