Show HAPPY NE WYEAR . 4 ( .i'iu'ie appears to be no good reason why each and cm ry citizen throughout Logan, Cache County, Utah and the United States cannot with good grace wish every other oth-er citizen :i happy New Year, and to hope that it will he so with every assurance of success. We therefore wish-all wish-all of our readers a Happy New Year and trust it will be prosperous as well. 'Ihe year just closed has been a momentous one, during which abnormal conditions fol-lowinij, fol-lowinij, tlve war have more or less prevailed, in conse-i quence of which it has been fraught with many extremes.) The New Year will of necessity be replete with' more or less of conservatism, and it is to be hoped that during the transition our eople will keep both feet on the ground, and adjust themselves to the new gait with as little disturbance dis-turbance ae possible. There is thanksgiving on every hand fur the almoal perfect condition of health in our locality, as well as for the many other blessings so boun-teousiy boun-teousiy bestowed. There is thanks and gratitude for the old year, and ho)e and assurance for the new vear. Throughout the New Year we predict that we will continue to grow richer and stronger in true Americanism American-ism and to appreciate more than over the government of which we form a part. As we ptow and advance we will realize more than ever that this is a nation of free peo pit , iiul that no one man or set of men is all powerful. I'jphat th opinion of one is just as likely to be rifht as the (pinion of the other, and that after all men are mortal, 'and it is decreed that they have the right to agree and disagree. And as we grow and advance we will learn to respect the person who honestly disagrees with us, and Igiant to othors the same privilege, while at the same time our contemi)t for the Lilliputian who arrogates to - J Aa himself all the wisdom and the right to decide American V m issues will continue to increase. Fortunately there are ju many of the former amongst us, and unfortunately still V a few of the latter. t? Let us then renew our devotion to a great city, a great t county, and a great state, and, as Abraham Lincoln said: m j: 'L't us have faith that right makes mieht; and in that Vw T 'faith, let us, to the end, darf to do our duty as we under- f 1 'stand it." ?-F i And as free Americans of the greatest government on h 1 earth let us remember, as the martyrd William McKinlev j 'said: "The constitution is a sacred instrument: and a ijjP jl J sacred trust is given to us to see to it that its preserva- ;H ' tion in all its virtue and its vigor is passed on to the gen- j 1 orations yet to come." , 19 v M Ibbs! |
