It is understood that H steps will be taken by the posts in H this county to send delegates to the H , convention, ns a number of important H matters will be up for consideration. H H The American Legion is conduct- H ing a drive this week for new mem- H 1 bcrs. Wo aro informed by Secretary H I Forbes that membership here is about H 1 75 per cent of the ex-service boys. H 1 It is hoped to bring the membership H locally to practically 100 per cent H the present week. H I "What is the use of the American H Legion?" some ex-service men hnvo H asked. There are many reasons for '! I the American Legion; one of tho most M essential being to keep alive the fires H of patriotism which were kindled dur- H ing your service to the country. H Others are to promote good fellowship H lone with another; encourage and di- H Ircct legislation which will give sub- H Istantinl recognition of services rcn- H 'dcrcd by the ex-soldiers; to look after H land promote tho interests of individ- H ual members, and see that they enjoy -H tho benefits of appropriations and U , provisions made for them, which H they might otherwise lose. The lo- H 'cal organization has been instYumcit- H I nl in collecting several hundred dol- H Inrs due to ex-service men, of this U I locnlity, which would have been for- H I felted but for tho work of tho Legion.
