Show Funeral Rites Held Monday for Lewis E. Olpin Funeral services for Lewis E. Olpin, local business man, civic and church leader, were held Monday, October 21, 1968 in the Timpanogos Stake House, under the direction of Bishop Joseph H. Beveridge of the Pleasant Grove LDS Fifth Ward. Mr. Olpin died last Friday in an Orem rest home of causes incident to age. He was 75 years of age. Speakers, who eulogized the deecased for his long, active and, purposeful life were President Presi-dent Ertmann Christensen and President Merrill N. Warnick. An obituary was read by Lacy White and Bishop Beveridge gave appropriate remarks. Karen and Leslie Ann Knight favored with a vocal duet, "Lead Kindly Light" and William Will-iam E. Petersen sang "That Silver Haired Daddy of Mine." S. Hal Haycock accompanied the singers and also played an organ solo and the prelude and postlude. Family prayer was led by Bishop Ace Boulter, President Vilace L. Radmall asked the invocation and benediction was pronounced by Bishop Paul L. Blackhurst. Pallbearers were Paul, Mark and James Weeks, Mike and Eric Westover, Jan and Jay Sundberg and Eddie Olpin. Flowers were cared for and arranged by the Fifth Ward Relief Society. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, where the grave was dedicated by President Roy D. Olpin. Lewis E. Olpin was a former mayor of Pleasant Grove and a former member of the Timpanogos Timp-anogos Stake Presidency. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of Post 70 Amercian Legion. In civic affairs, he was a member of the Bank of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove board of directors and was a partner and president presi-dent of the Pleasant Grove Lunmber & Supply Co. Mr. Olpin . graduated from Brigham Young Univerisity. He taught school in Beaver County and was the principal of Alpine and Sharon Schools in Utah County before becoming becom-ing a mortician with his father's fath-er's funeral home in Pleasant Grove. With a brother, he directed Olpin Mortuary in Heber City for many years and established the Olpin -Sundberg Mortaury in Orem. He retired in 1960. Mr. Olpin was a bishop and counselor of the Pleasant Grove First Ward, and was then called to the Timpanogos i Stake Presidency. He served a church missions to New Zealand and ,in 1961,?? Sit.i fulfilled a- mission to Florida with his wife. He was born Jan. 23, 1893, in Pleasant Grove, a son of Edwin Dee and Inez Melissa Robison Olpin. He married Margaret Joseph Dec. 21, 1921 in the Salt Lake Temple. Surviving are his widow; sons, daughters, E, Dee, Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove; Joseph Gerald, Salt Lake City; Mrs. E. L. (LuJean) Sundberg, Orem; Mrs. Stanley (Kathryn) Weeks, Walnut Creek, California; Mrs. Jack (Elaine) Westover, Aurora, Colo, Mrs. Larry (Jewel) Knight, Palo Alto, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; brothers, sisters, sis-ters, Joseph, serving Church mission in Texas; Roy, Fillmore; Fill-more; Mrs. Lacy White, Mrs. Walter (Donna) Brock, both Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Ace (Emma) Boulter, Draggerton; Mrs. Alonzo (Bell) Hansen, Mrs. May Mortinson, both Ephraim. |
