Show DAVIS REFLEX JOURNAL, MARCH 13, 1985 r Volunteers Needed March 16 To Plant 8000 Bitterbrush For Davis Deer To Eat Due to the fires on the mountain east of Farmington, deer are having a rough time finding enough browse to keep them on the This lack of forage forces the deer down into the cities where they can nibble on peoples favohili-side- s. rite ornamental shrubs and flowers. TO COMBAT the problem the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) and the Davis County Wildlife Federation (DCWF) is planning to plant 8,000 bitterbrush seedlings on the face of the mountain. When the plants are estab lished there should be enough feed to keep the deer on the hillside where they belong. Getting the seedlings into the ground before they leave the dormant stage is critical to the survival of the plant. TO INSURE survivability of the plants, the DCWF is asking for volunteers to help in the planting. Many people are needed to get the plants in the ground in a relatively short period of time. Scouts, people, Sportsmen and animal lovers are welcome to participate. 4-- IF THE project is successful, deer feeding of pellets and hay wont be necessary as was last winter. March 16 is the target date for the plantings. Volunteers will need to bring a shovel, a plastic bag a 20 sq. rag (wet) and a lunch if desired. Refreshments will be furnished by the DCWF. THE FARMINGTON City Courthouse will be the take off point and those willing to help should be there by 9 a.m. For more details contact Allan Hash.
