The fifth grade students ;u South Summit Elementary would like lo thank Mr. Dean Sleinickc and his partner for the opportunity to ride their Snowcats into the mountains of" Park CityMr. Stoinickc and his partner own two Snowcats that traverse the mountains above Deer Valley. The)' invited all the students in the fifth grade to write an essay thai staled why they would enjoy a snowcat ride. Mr. Taylor's and Mrs. Boyce's f'il'th grade elasses won 45-minute snowcai rides. The .students thought the experience was one they probably would not have had an opportunity lo do if not for the kindness of the two Snowcat entrepreneurs. The students loved the machines, the mountains, the weather and the view. Many of the students came back to school and wrote about their experience. Their writing will be displayed at "Special Persons" night on April 6. On April 5, the South Summit FFA sent three judging teams: one livestock team and two horse-judging teams lo Tooele for a judging competition. The livestock team consisted of JR MeCray, Chris Lee, Skylcr Page and Trent Lott. The team judged classes of pigs, beef cattle and sheep. The horse judging teams consisted of Kayde Bales. Nina Wilmoth, Tuesday, April 12. Second grade sent Brianna Lambert, Jessica Bess and McKaye Woolstenhulme. Third grade winners were Brad Richins, Colton Peck and Hunter Hallows. Fourth grade sent Sadie Woolstenhulme. Cole Richins and Devon Walkenhorst. Fifth grade students were Krisly King, Taylor Chrisiensen and Michael Griffin. All 12 students spent Tuesday afternoon spelling many words. When the spelling bee was over, the students placed as follows: first, Sadie Woolstenhulme; second, Kristy King; third, Michael Griffin; fourth, Devon Walkenhorst; fifth, Colion Peck; sixth, Taylor Chrisiensen; seventh. Cole Riehins; eighth, Jessica Bess; ninth, Brad Riehins; 10th. Brianna Lambert; llth, McKaye Woolslenhulme, and 12th, Hunter Hallows. Congratulations to all these wonderful spellers. How Do You Have a Write Good Time? South Summit Elementary students invited one or two special people in their lives to enjoy a "Write" good time with them on Wednesday. April 6, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Students brought grandpas, grandmas, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, moms or dads to enjoy a fun evening focused around writing. The evening began with an assembly by writer Gary Hogg. He told stories about a mischievous boy named Spencer. Mr. Hogg encouraged family members to share their stones with the children at home. He told the children that his stories came from real things thai had happened in his life. He also autographed copies of his books for students. Classroom teachers prepared many writing activities that the students and their special person could enjoy together. Students signed up T© The lo share their stories from the author's chair. Many people stopped to listen to the great student authors as they read iheir written treasures. The walls and the counters were covered with delightful an projects and interesting writing pieces. The FPO provided a variety of cookies as well as juice and milk for everyone to enjov. South Summit Middle School Third Quarter Honor Roll Spell Off Winners Announced Can you spell coincidence, meringue, appendectomy, stereophonic and facade? These words were part of a 1,400 word list that students grade 1-5 studied in preparation for the annual school spelling bee. Each class held their own spelling bee and then each grade had a spell off to determine the lop three spellers for their grade. Grades 2-5 sent their top three spellers to the school spell off on Robert Jorgensen, Dakody Gines, Colter Knight and Rowdy Thompson. This team judged show horses, mares and gildings. We appreciate the time, effort and willingness of the FFA members to spend extra time before and after school. The Wildcats fought hard the whole game. The Eagles made the first goal of the game. Chris Maines answered back late in the second half, which look the game into over lime. This year's fair will feature experiments from students in kindergarten through eighth grade as well as Found Art—class projects made with recycled materials. The Found Art component o( this fair celebrates the 35th anniversary of Earth Day. The Colby School thanks Recycle Utah for their partnership in this event.
