Shabazz, age 29, daughter of Malcolm X, was arrested May 30 after allegedly charging over $1,000 in merchandise at the Factory Outlet Stores to her landlords credit card. Shabazz has been charged with 20 counts of forgery, unlawful use of a credit card, theft and giving a false name to a police officer. Her attorney claims Shabazz believes she had permission to use the card. The card in question is an AT&T credit card, which belongs to Brigham Young University professor Robert Wayne Pace, who is currently on a fellowship out of the country and whose Provo home Shabazz is renting. According lo the sheriff's report, a clerk at the Maidcnform Outlet Store noticed that Shabazz had charged several purchases that day and attempted to hold the card but Shabazz protested. As Shabazz left the store the clerk called the police. Shabazz was then detained by a Utah Highway Patrol trooper but was released after claiming she was Pace's daughter Rolanda. Subsequently the credit card company confirmed the credit card did not belong to her and Shabazz was arrested by a Wasatch County deputy. Shabazz was then booked into the Summit County Jail overnight and released on $14,000 bond the next morning. She is scheduled to appear in Coalville s Third Circuit Court June 27. According to Summit County Detective Joe Offrct, "the only way we have to belreve she is Malcolm X's daughter is because Mr. Pace told the Sheriff's Department that her utility bills were paid for by the Malcolm X Foundation. "However, bail was posted by Shabazz's mother Betty Shabazz, widow of Malcolm X, a black activist who was assassinated in 1965. 1400 Snow Creek Dr. (Dan's Shopping Center off Hwy 224) Perk City, Utah 435.655.WINE (9463) www theartotwine.biz . . ^ theartofwine@bigplanet.com ' Enjoy 20% off any one Summer Spa Fundamental A\\ 5 0 MIM'll Sl'MMlH t'l \IUMIMM TRUIMfM Al P I P I I I O X T I H SPA MK \ I I I J fi W i s i r . i i i P \ k k C m KLSOKI. 435-655-2266 WESTGATE 'PARK CrTY Of .i -. *!<j i l v ^ h Jjn? 30.HO'J on* -.pj'.f IHJ ' i ) .
