Boot company pitches its tent at local resort • Continued from B-9 does. "With most companies, you never get lo meel the top guys. [The top guys at ThirtyTwo] are guys thai board with you," explains White. "And they're ahead of everyone else. Ninety percent of my wall is moldablc liner boots. ThirtyTwo was the first to do it eight years ago. I carry three boot companies at my shop, but I use ThirtyTwos ovens to customfitall my boots. We [retailers] sell because we love to snowboard and ThrityTwo makes their boots for the same reason." ThirlyTwos brand marketing manager, and creator of Bool Camp. Brian Cook, lists giving a custom fit as the company's top priority. Though Thirty Two may dabble in clothing, he says, its primary focus will continue to be footwear. "Getting the bestfitis number one." says Cook. "Every one of our boots has an internal lacing system and heal-moldable linings to get rid of the break-in period. We want to give 100 percent of our dedication to boots, which is why we stay snowboard boot-specific. We want to keep feel happy." In 1996. says Cook, ThirtyTwo began to use hcat-moldable liners with Intuition Utralon foam to give customers personalized comfort. Using heal tubes, a retailer warms the boot and asks the shopper to step into it. When the boot cools, the lining hardens to make the inside perfectly adjusted to an individual's foot. ThirtyTwo was the first in the snowboarding industry to implement the system, says Cook, and it is only recently that other companies in the industry have caught on. Chosen by the company's owner, Pierre Andre Senizergues. the name ThirtyTwo comes from the perfect temperature for snowflakes: 32 degrees Fahrenheit. In 2000. five years after Senizergues began making snowboard boots. Cook dreamed up Boot Camp to help improve sales for the brand. The first year. Cook brought his teams to Brighton in Utah and last year he camped at Lake Tahoe in California. Boot Camp has done amazing things for the company. According to Cook, ThirlyTwo has increased boot sales 50 percent since last year alone. The reason Cook decided lo bring his camp back to Utah for another year may have something to do with his living in Salt Lake way back when. In fact. Cook says he can remember 'Hie Canyons when il was Wolf Mountain, because before he ever worked for ThirtyTwo, he worked for Gart Sports in Park City. "When I lived in Salt Lake. Wolf Mountain was where we used to board," recalls Cook. "The Canyons is a great location for Boot Camp because they really under- stand our market-they've always had snowboarders here." Cook jokes that he's practically moved into r llic Miners Club. In order lo set up shop, he brought truckloads full of gear from California in two two-story units at the Canyons, 'lliere will be several sessions of his campaign running throughout January and into February during which Cook will ship in retailers from Utah, Colorado, the Pacific Northwest, Southern California, to as far as the Midwest and New England. "The catered four-day tour is really a chance to get retailers more involved." explains Cook. "Boot Camp is about feed back. Sometimes there's a certain color that a market needs and we can create more stitching and protection if [retailers] think it's necessary. Who else bqllcr lo invite than the retailers themselves?" Another "liiirtyTwo devotee, Steve Slcvenson, came lo camp by way of his shop at Copper Mountain in Colorado. Though 'Hie Canyons tour is his first with ThirtyTwo, Stevenson says he's always admired the product the company turns out. "'liiesc guys have been on point for years," raves Stevenson. "Our job is super specific: ourjobistohelp people have fun. This is really a chance for me to test products and know that they're the kind of product I want to sell in my store. It helps me feel confident." Tough work, but somebody's got to do it. says Cook. "I love my job," he says. "At ThirlyTwo we always want to do something new and keep it special for retailers. Utah has amazing snow-great powder. We definitely lucked out this year." us mil m.. nti cirr. e u m e 4100 sq. ft. of books - Park City's grooviest, most eclectic independent bookstore. For the average homebuyer, that translates into the lowest possible mortgage rate. That translation can often result in costly mistakes. Getting the lowest mortgage rate available is important, but buyers who are only considering low rates and fees may be missing what is the single most important factor in obtaining a home loan-service. In a recent study conducted with Real Estate agents nationwide, nine out of ten agents recommend a lender'based on service first and cost second. Often the lowest-priced lender is not the one that agents work with on a regular basis. Problems can arise in the loan process and it can be extremely difficult to solve them it' the lender doesn't provide the level of service required to guide you through the obstacles. Poor service can create time delays and end up costing you the money you tried to save or more. The average American will applyfora mortgage only a few times in a lifetime. Realtors, however, are doing this on a daily basts and that is why time and again they will opt for working with a quality lender.
