Those two consensus consen-sus picks were joined by seven other Park City players to be named to the newspaper all-state lineups. Rino fueled the Miner ground game for most of the season, only to suffer a broken ankle just before the playoffs began. Winterer proved to have the surest hands of the Park City Ci-ty receiving corps, but also went down in the Alta game just before the playoffs. They were the centerpieces of the Park City team which went all the way to the state semifinal game before bowing out this season. Park City faithful can have many a discussion about how far the Miners could have gone with Rino and Winterer available for the playoffs. Three other players were mentioned mention-ed in both newspapers, but only Rino and Winterer made first team in each. Darren Bean was selected first team at offensivft'linW by the . Tribune, but was a second team offensive of-fensive lineman in the News. Chance Pellum was named first team defensive defen-sive lineman in the News, and was second team in the Tribune. Russ Mathews, the Region Nine Player of the Year, was named second se-cond team quarterback by both papers. The ever-diligent Tribune, however, seemed to have a bit of trouble with Mathews' name, calling him Wes instead of Russ. Four other Miners were named to the Deseret News teams. Shawn McMillan was a first team selection at linebacker. Brian Worley was the second team kicker. And Mark Bowers (linebacker) and Steve Osguthorpe (defensive back) were given honorable mention. The most glaring hole in the all-state all-state teams was in the 2A defense in the Tribune. There, although Park City's defense was the best in Region Nine all season, not a single Miner was named to the first team. The selection of Pellum on second team was all that kept Park City from being be-ing left off completely. To the nine Miners who were honored, however, the most hearty congratulations from the Park Record. Had we selected the teams, we would have named 22 Miner first teamers! t ? - ' J ' it.
