Show 25th Anniversary Edition page 14 Remember when... It snowed 85 inches in November? (in 1983) Souvenirs benefit Park City Ski Team Posters, sweatshirts, caps... For the past three years the Park City Ski Education Foundation Founda-tion (i.e. the Park City Ski Team) has reaped benefits from sales of souvenirs at World Cup and Pro Cup events held at the Park City Ski Area. Hats, t-shirts, sweatshirts and posters commemorating the events have made their way into many a home over past ski seasons. Sure, the items provide much-needed funds for local racers, but they have also been popular for reasons beyond generosity. Each year art from a different artist has become the central theme adorning the souvenir line. In the past, artists have stuck with the topic of choice namely, racing. This year, thanks to local artist Judy Taylor, souvenir lovers will get something new. Taylor's work combines both America's Opening Pro Cup and Park City's 25th Anniversary in a watercolor landscape depicting 1 t 14- V Judy Taylor and her America's Opening poster. Silver Reserve is brewed by the Schirf Brewing Company of Park City, Ci-ty, makers of Wasatch beer products, pro-ducts, and will only be available during dur-ing the 1988-89 ski season. "This is a uniquely fresh German-style German-style beer made from lightly roasted malted barleys and the finest hops," says Greg Schirf, president of Schirf Brewery. "Silver Reserve has a light, fresh taste and because it's naturally carbonated is smoother, less bubbly than most American beers." One of Schirfs products, Wasatch Premium Ale, recently placed among the top 10 beers in the county at the Great American Beer Festival held in Denver, Co. Over 200 beers from 146 breweries including all the major beer companies and many smaller breweries from all over the country were entered in the competition. competi-tion. Schirf Brewery, now located in Prospector Square, is currently undergoing construction on their new brew-pub located on Historic Main Street. The brewerypubrestaurant will be the first such operation to open in the state of Utah. Set to be completed in Spring of '89, the brew-pub will offer daily tours and dining alongside Utah's only specialty brewery. From dancing in the bleachers to eating fine food to capturing cap-turing the excitement of pro racing. rac-ing. ..America's Opening has something for everyone. There are a couple of things worth mentioning if this is your first. First of all, be prepared to walk. The course is on the Payday run up from the Park City Resort Center, but it takes a few hundred yards to get to the actual course. The walk is all uphill and, hopefully if Mother Nature cooperates, you'll be waking on slick snow. Wear your snow boots. Also, dress warm. Watching a race, no matter how much you dance, can get cold. Bring mittens, hats, scarfs, extra jackets and a blanket to sit on you will be much more comfortable as a result. The ski area will be offering two different America's Opening tickets so to speak. General admission passes sell for $5 and can be purchased pur-chased fiom the ski area either at - 1. 1. ill up p-iiuum. pm. wM mmmmm rffl Phil and Steve Mahre the ticket office on the day of the race, or beforehand at the ski area's sports desk. If you'd like to get fancy, you might want to spend a day in the V I P. section. For $25 you get bleacher seating, drink service, and a meal that's out of this world. V.I. P. tickets can be purchased at the sports desk as well. Also, pro racing is a little different from racing you might be used to on the World Cup level. The pros only race for times in the first round, from then on the format is head-to-head, as racers try to beat their opponents op-ponents for time differentials. The format lends itself to exciting competition, requiring endurance and stamina. In Honor of PARK CITY SKI AREA'S 25TH ANNIVERSARY BOOKSTORE 510 Main St. 649-8062 i - , i . - ' " 1.
