Show Oar German Senator This evening Mr Gus Williams Wil-liams the comedian with a company com-pany appears at the Theatre here in the specialty piece Our German Senator Mr Williams was here before and made a very favorable impression with his eccentricities The play is essentially a comedy one and is likely to draw on all three performancesthis evening and Saturday afternoon ad evening even-ing Following is from the Montreal Mon-treal Gazette Gus Williams enviable reputation never fails in attracting large audiences audi-ences wherever he aooears The Theatre Royal was well filled last night on the occasion of his reappearance reap-pearance in Montreal and a cordial burst of applause welcomed his entry on the stage Our German Senator is a comedy in every one of the lines in which it Kcomposed full of wit and exquisitely droll situations sit-uations and capable of continuing to the end the laughter which commences com-mences at the rising of the curtain In the new line of business adopted by Mr Gus Williams he does not forget the specialties by which he made his reputation In the second act of the comedy he introduces new songs new recitations and new com icalities for he never appears a see I ond time without an entire change of programme But Gus can elicit laughter without the use of his tongue and when a firstclass character char-acter like that of Our German Senator Sen-ator is put in his hands the result may be easily imagined His company has evidently been selected with considerable care Miss Dora Stuart as Mrs Dinkel gave very efficient support to the principal figure in the play She is a capital actress and lost none of the good points which her part supplied her Miss Maggie Arlington as the Duchess of Katch erkerchowkistan looked and acted the character so charmingly that no one wondered at the number of ad mirers she possessed Miss Emily Bigelow and Miss DeYoung in the I respective roles of Flora Bruce and Fannie were also snocessf The Judge Spruce of Mr Hudson Liston was considerably overacted and appeared ludicrous rather than funny Mr Archie Boyd was very fair as the porertystricken journalist journal-ist Captain Dyonysius Puff and Mr Albert Murdock made a passable pass-able Bertie Benton The Colonel Bruce of Mr J F Stevens was a pleasing performance |
