Show COUNTY CONVENTION. On Monday, July 26, 1880, the county convention was held in Logan. The convention was called to order by Hon. (Honorable) Moses Thatcher. Ezra D. Carpenter was elected temporary chairman and James Leishman temporary secretary. Upon motion, the chair appointed Charles O. Card, Samuel Oldham and John King a committee on credentials. The house was addressed by the chairman upon our particular duties as citizens and Saints, and spoke of the organization of our county into the people's party. Hon. He spoke of the wisdom of making a good selection of officers, and said it was unwise to keep men in office who had become unpopular with the people. He set forth that although a man be a Bishop or a president, he nevertheless had rights in common with other men and recommended that a wise course be pursued by this convention. He set forth the individual rights of each member. Hon. (Honorable) W. B. Preston addressed the convention. He said he hoped the action taken might be sustained by the people afterwards and hoped that union would characterize these people. The committee on credentials returned and reported that the delegates from all of the precincts in the county, except Petersborough, Clarkston, Benson, Lewiston and Richmond - which was not represented, were entitled to seats.
