Show WEST VALLEY VIEW Thursday, LETTERS Mayor race . . . Dear Sir, Mike Gorrell seems to relish the brawl he is predicting will take place in the West Valley race for mayor. He almost appears to feel bad about the possibility of Mackay losing so there will be a campaign strictly on issues. Such is the desire for sensat- ionalism. Sunrise gas station. The Husky station had tried to have this zoning changed before, but the Salt Lake County Planning Commission turned it down. The reason being that commercial property belonged on the corners and not in the middle of the street. A Seven 11 tried to go in at 6400 West 3500 South in August, 1980, but it was denied. Then the Sunrise station was allowed to be built. I contacted WVC on the morning of the 22nd, but the secretary didnt know what was on the agenda for the next days meeting as Oct. 1, 1981 commissioners. When we were part of the unincorporated area of the county, a person living within 300 feet of the zoning change would be given a written notice two weeks in TO THE EDITOR It's our turn . . . Dear Editor: The insensitivety of our present West Valley City officials to the peoples desires concerning property zoning has prompted this letter. Our zoning protection of property has undergone a radical process under our present mayor and his two of the advance meeting with the County Commissioners. On July 22, 1981 notice was received of a hearing set for July 23 to change a Husky gas station owned by Nate Wagstaff from use in area to zoning. agriculture commercial This same zoning change was sought by Gerald Wagstaff of the the commissioners were in an executive session on it. By afternoon I was given the information. At the zoning meeting, when the raised question about this lack of public notice, we were told, We dont have to send out written notice at all or post the area. That is just a courtesy was we do. The zoning notice is published in the legal section of a local paper within the How time limit. many people, would even recognize a legal description of their property or that of their neighbors? It is very strange that Mr. Wagstaff stated at the meeting that he had spent over $25,000 in remodeling changes in anticipation of getting this zoning change, which would allow the selling of beer. Yet none of the neighbors wanted this change. In December, 1978 a girl was hit and killed by a car coming out of that Husky station as she had just gotten off a bus. We didnt want to see any more of our upcoming mayor can- didates were as they rejected our plea and voted to change the zoning at these two locations. Now its our turn to vote on them. Darlyne Aguilar Hunter Leaving office . . . To the Editor: Yesterday (Wednes- killed or day) I left my position as Salt Lake County Commissioner to join the management of the maimed because of their trying to get across 3500 South to that gas station.
