Show life B2 - . f MONDAY"- AUGUST 27 • 2007 HICHMAN'S COLUMN Cool beans Right now there's a big problem with people thinking they can do whatever they want because they have the money to do it. They push aside talent and knowledge of what they're doing because they can afford it. They think that because they're fans of it, they know how to do it. For example, everyone in Utah that has money thinks they can make a movie because they like them (watch just about any Utah-made movie that comes out exclusively in Utah theaters and you'll know what I mean). The end result is a poorly acted and directed stinker that's so visually painful you leave the theater with an ocular migraine. The same goes for writers. Just because you took a writing class at BYU, it does not mean that you're now a professional. The worst is when you have musicians thinking they're great actors, or vice versa. Remember Eminem in 8 MILE playing Eminem in real life? It's not acting if you're playing yourself. That's like asking Amy Winehouse or Fergie to play a trashy talentless "musician" with a shady past of sex and drugs. And do you remember the long list of Hollywood ladies that tried breaking through the music scene? Paris "Did The Crime, Paid The Time (Sort Of)" Hilton. Lindsay "I'm So Coked Out I Don't Know What Movies I'm In" Lohan. And Jennifer Love Hewitt. Sorry, but I've got nothing on the beautiful J. Love. Recent movie news is saying that Fred Durst is about to have a breakthrough in film. Two words: doubt it. How can you expect the guy who released a remake of a George Michael song as one of his first singles to make an original film? The result will be like Indiana Jones and Allan Quatennain, or Deep Impact and Armageddon. Or National Treasure and Sahara, for those of you young-ins who don't know the early references. I like food. You don't see me acting like a chef, ripping off recipes from others and passing them off as my own. But you never know. If I had the money to do it, it just might happen. I do live in Utah after all, where this is more common than anywhere else in the United Slates. You should all start hoping I don't get my hands on some money. We want people people.
